This property is near the Desierto de los Leones National Park, just 5 minutes away. After the Mexican Revolution in 1917, the Desierto de los Leones forest became the country's first national park. The Desierto de los Leones convent is an example of the Carmelite architectural style. Inside the convent, at the bottom, there is a basement, which turns out to be one of the biggest current attractions of the place and about which some legends are told; it is an extremely dark place, in which you cannot even see the person in front of you. People who enter may get lost for a few minutes, or they may hit themselves because the ceiling is very low and the tunnels are very narrow. Some of the legends say that the basement was the monks' place of punishment, a dungeon, or they were catacombs. It is worth visiting its restaurants specializing in Mexican antojitos, grilled or grilled trout, mushroom soups, marrow, etc. Some places sell pulque and specialties such as maguey worms. Additionally, there are horseback riding activities with rides through the park, ATV rentals for closed circuit riding, mountain biking, basic mountaineering, and camping activities during the day or night. In addition to these breathtaking landscapes, the city is home to a wide variety of tourist attractions, such as La Marquesa, another park that serves as a weekend retreat and recreation spot for residents of Toluca and Mexico City.
