Description

The 13th century castle sits above the village of Gemünden, also called "the pearl of the Hunsrück". The beautiful and spacious rooms offer plenty of space and tranquility and a unique historical experience. Thanks to the thick castle walls, it is also pleasant and of course cool in high summer. On the castle terrace under the Linden, you can relax and enjoy the view of the opposite Soon Forest. Perfect for family holidays or with friends and colleagues. The space Gemünden Castle is a special destination for all castle lovers. In the Hunsrück, it is almost unrivaled as the only and most beautiful castle that is still so well preserved. It has been family-owned for over half a millennium. It will only be made accessible to external guests for the first time in 2024. Please also contact us about our wedding package. You can rent the castle and the courtyard house for yourself and your guests (15 sleeping places) and organize your celebration in the remise in the castle courtyard. Surroundings: Healthy time-out in nature - the surrounding Soonwald offers countless opportunities for hiking and cycling! The premises: The castle offers plenty of space to relax on 600 square meters indoors and the 500 square meter terrace with garden and pool. The bedrooms: There are a total of three tower suites ("Antonius Tower Suite", "Lexi Tower Suite" and "Red Chapel Suite") with four beds each. In addition, there is a double room ("Tambach Room") and a single room ("Rolshausen Room"). The castle thus offers 15 sleeping places and is particularly suitable for families and groups. The rooms are all very spacious. More information about the rooms: The "Red Chapel" tower suite (northeast tower, 2nd floor) has a double bed. In front of it is a separately accessible room with two single beds in it. Both rooms share a bathroom. In the "Lexi Tower Suite" (North-East Tower 2nd floor) there is a large double bed in the back room and another double bed in the anteroom. The shared bathroom is accessible from both rooms. In the "Antonius Tower Suite" (North-West Tower 2nd floor) there is a double bed in the back room and another double bed in the anteroom. The shared bathroom overlooking the forest behind and the village of Gemünden is accessible from the anteroom. In the "Tambach Room" (2nd floor, south side) there is a double bed. This includes a shower room located directly opposite the corridor. Next to the "Tambach Room" (accessible from the corridor and with a connecting door from the "Tambach Room") is the "Rolshausen Room" with a single bed in it. The kitchen: In the kitchen with dining area (a large wooden table) there is a large induction stove (Bosch) and oven (Miele). There are also sufficient and tasteful dishes and glasses. For elegant diners, the Rittersaal is right next to the kitchen. For coffee, there is a filter coffee machine and an Italian mocha pot (caffettiera) on site. Other rooms and pool: The large salon with three sofas and several armchairs on the ground floor offers more space to linger. From here you can reach the garden and pool via a small terrace and stone staircase. The pool is in season (approx. June to early September) exclusively for our holiday guests until 5 pm. After that, access to the garden and pool is closed. General information about the castle: The former castle has been extensively renovated. We attach particular importance to sustainability. We heat CO₂-neutral with a newly installed wood chip heating system. We generate electricity from our own photovoltaic system. Since the floors and furniture are sometimes very sensitive, eating and drinking is only allowed in the kitchen and dining room. The house rules apply after moving in (stored here digitally and on site - please read through beforehand) On the terrace and garden areas there are a variety of seating options. There are cushions for all seating furniture. The swimming pool is surrounded by a fence for the safety of the children. Additional information about small groups: If each guest wants to have their own room, the layout can be as follows: The castle offers a total of four bathrooms - accordingly, four people/couples can stay separately in their own room with bathroom. Otherwise, there would be eight separate rooms - two of which are passage rooms - and bathrooms must be shared accordingly. For bookings of groups where each guest wants to occupy their OWN ROOM, the cleaning fee increases from €250 final cleaning to €350 FINAL CLEANING. The reason: the rooms in the castle are very large. This is to cover the higher cost of preparing the additional rooms for only one guest each. We charge the additional fee of €100 manually after booking. WiFi: There is Wi-Fi in the castle. But because of the thick castle walls, it is partially inaccessible in the rooms. Only on the lower floor in the entrance area is it relatively strong. Additional services: For all barbecue lovers: there is a gas grill on request. For 25 euros per stay, we will provide you with the grill. This makes it wonderful to barbecue on the castle terrace! We are happy to provide a travel cot, changing table and high chair for 8 euros per day. We're happy to have your dog. We charge 10 euros per day per dog for this. Linens and towels (for bath and pool) are included. In addition, we provide towels for an extra charge per stay (5 euros per person per set). Guest access Via the entrance hall you come through the Knights' Hall, which can also be used for larger dinners, into the large castle kitchen with dining area. The amenities are basic but fully functional. Back in the hall, you come through the double wing door into the large living room. From there, a wide staircase leads to the garden with swimming pool. From the hall, the large stone staircase leads you to the first floor. There is the "Red Chapel" suite with "children's room" in the north tower. On the second floor is the "Lexi Tower" to the east side, to the south side is the "Rolshausen Room" overlooking the Soonwald and next to it the Tambach Room. In the southwest tower is the "Antonius Suite." A total of 15 people can stay overnight in the castle. The castle is divided in itself, with part of it still being used by the owner family. The owners can also be on site during the rental. Some cabinets with private contents and rooms are not accessible. The castle terrace is only partially exclusively at your disposal. The small area in front of the half-timbered part of the castle belongs to the private part. Other things to note What do vacation guests love about us? The very special original and historical experience in the house. In addition, the majestic view over the village to the Soonwald from all the rooms and the unique tranquility. Thanks to the thick castle walls, the house is also pleasant and naturally cool in summer. So you sleep fantastically here. Not least because Gemünden is also one of the recognized climatic health resorts in Germany. From the house you can directly access the numerous well-signposted hiking trails of the Soonwald-Nahe Nature Park without a car ride. Especially for children, it is a paradise with us: no cars and many play opportunities in the house, on the terrace and in nature. In the village of Schloss Gemünden there is a supermarket, butcher, two churches, a pharmacy and doctor's office, auto repair shops, 2 gas stations and a tourist shop – everything is within walking distance of the apartment. There is plenty to discover in the immediate vicinity: Some of the most beautiful hiking and cycling trails in Germany are located in the Hunsrück (e.g.: Soonwaldsteig in the Soonwald-Nahe Nature Park, the Schinderhannespfad leads from Gemünden via Simmern to Kastellaun). Other highlights: the Geierlay suspension bridge, the wineries on the Middle Rhine, Moselle and Nahe rivers, as well as the Koppenstein castle ruins. An individual guide is available on Airbnb. Barbecue: For all barbecue lovers: there is a gas grill on request. For 40 euros per stay, we will provide you with the grill. You can grill wonderfully on the castle terrace! Personal chef or wine tasting: I can arrange a private chef upon request. If you are interested in wine tastings in the region, I will also make contact. Children: We are happy to provide a travel cot, changing table, high chair and children's stroller (the Moon Flac) for 10 euros per day. Dogs: By arrangement, a dog may be brought along. We charge 10 euros per day per dog for this. Bed linens and towels: In addition, we provide bed linen and towels for an extra charge per stay (5 euros per person). Otherwise, you can bring your own linen. Early check-in and late check-out Early check-in or late check-out is possible for an extra charge of € 50.
