Within 30 minutes drive explore Beamish Museum, The World Famous Living Museum, Durham City with it’s stunning Cathedral, The World's Oldest Railway, Tanfield Railway. The Medieval Village of Blanchland with it’s Abbey founded in 1165. For Outdoor lovers there is an excellent network of leafy walks and cycle paths on the doorstep. Relax in a comfy settee, enjoy a cuppa and a treat from your welcome pack. Clean, fresh and uncluttered the house is suited to families, couples, corporate workers and contractors. Explore into the well equipped kitchen and dining area where you can enjoy conjuring up breakfast and evening meals after your days adventures. Upstairs is the main bedroom with super comfy Super-king bed ( which can be split into twins), very welcoming after a long day, and a cosy twin bed room. After a day of exploring look forward to a luxurious soak in the bath or refreshing shower in the light and airy bathroom with plenty of fluffy towels provided. Relax in the patio furniture and enjoy a morning coffee or that well earned evening glass of wine in the enclosed yard at the rear of the house, also ideal for storing cycles. Parking is free and on the street or at the rear of the house. Neighbours are usually courteous of each other’s parking. The town of Consett, approximately a 7 minute drive has a wide range of shopping facilities, including Supermarkets pharmacies, cafes, restaurants and pubs including Wetherspoons. For theatre lovers head to The Empire Theatre in Consett, there is always a great selection of Films or Live Tribute Acts, cosy atmosphere, bar and convenient parking. Leadgate also has all the shopping essentials you may need, Co-op General Store, Post Office, Pharmacy, Ladies Fashion Boutique, Hardware Shop, Fish n Chip Shop, 'little Italy' Italian Restaurant. There is an extensive and varied book collection in the house, nothing better than to settle in for the evening, snuggle into the settee wrap yourself in a cosy rug with a nice glass of wine and a good book after your day exploring or stressful day at work. You might fancy stretching your mind a little and try one of the jigsaws, housed alongside the books. If you need to work there is reliable wifi. 195 Durham Road is ideally situated for a network of beautiful walks and cycle paths, you will find information in the house on how to take part in the walks. There are also lots of guided walks. There are lots of great pubs in the area for eating out, the closest being 'The Jolly Drovers' a friendly local, excellent food and famous for it's carvery, you can walk to the pub in 10 minutes or drive there in approx 5 minutes. The Pavillion Cantonese Restaurant is a 5 minute drive, 10 minute walk from the house. Drop down into the village of Lanchester, a 10 minute drive, you will find pubs serving excellent food, coffee shops and a good selection of general shops. The Lanchester Garden Centre is excellent for food, sit out on their terrace with beautiful views and enjoy lunch and a glass of wine or a coffee. Nearby there are many attractions including Tanfield Railway, the Worlds Oldest Railway, take a 60 minute return steam train journey through the scenic countryside between Sunniside and East Tanfield and enjoy a portion of delicious fish n chips on board - approx 17 minutes drive. Beamish Museum - The Living Museum of the North and world famous open air museum, along with it's recently added 1950's Town and Grand Cinema is approx 16 minutes drive. Durham City with it's stunning Cathedral, in spring and summer you could take a River Cruise or hire a Rowing Boat and take in the spectacular views of this historic city - approx 30 minutes drive. The river and park area at Allensford is approx a 10 minute drive, kids will love the play area, there are picnic tables, and small cafe serving delicious food. Sometimes the best part of a getaway is just to take time out and be with nature, you can do just that by taking a wander around the Blackhill and Consett Park. The park was originally gifted to the community by The Consett Iron Company in 1891. You can enjoy winding pathways, flower beds, and historical elements. The park is open from dawn to dusk. Gibside Hall, , near Rowlands Gill approximately 20 minutes drive from 195 Durham Road is an amazing National Trust Property, There is a Georgian landscaped garden, woodland, walled garden, stables and a very impressive tree-lined avenue leading from the chapel to the Column to Liberty. Gibside's cafes serve up fresh sandwiches, wood fired pizzas and great coffee. You can even have a pamper session in the woods, walk or take the estate bus through the forest to 'The Bothy' and treat yourself to a Face to Foot massage from' Kate Cullen Holistic Therapies,' you can even have an energy treatment to help with anxiety, insomnia etc. If you book a session you even get free entry into Gibside Hall. There are guided walks through the estate led by fully qualified guides from an hour and upwards. What more could you ask for, a day to remember!! Also a great idea for a girls pampering weekend away. A visit to the nearby medieval village of Blanchland in our beautiful neighbouring Northumberland is a must, with its Abbey built in 1165 and the Lord Crewe Arms, sit by a roaring fire enjoying a drink and delicious food. For cocktail lovers why not arrange a night in, stock up on your favourite snacks and have your favourite cocktail hamper made up by Consett's very own ' Mr. Mix' delivered to you. This can arranged once you have booked. Guest access The whole house and courtyard is for the use of guests. Other things to note Potential guests must be aged 18 years and over.
