Lake, valley, & sea views, close to Falmouth
Description
This truly unique home offers a cosy & welcoming countryside retreat, with far-reaching lake views, the ocean sparkling on the horizon and a private garden to enjoy. Perfect as a base for an active holiday. Walk, ride, drive, swim, surf, snorkel, coasteer, kayak, ferry, fish or sail around the coast and countryside. Cook homemade pizzas & BBQs on the decking, or relax with the stars, sunrises, & birds, taking in the panoramic views of the sprawling valleys, reservoirs & sea. The space Harmony Hut is a converted and fully renovated open-plan static caravan which has been clad with beautiful waney-edged larch. Insulated & fully refurbished in a modern style, the van is winterised with double glazing and has a log burner installed for extra warmth. At the end of the hut is a lounge area to relax in, which along with the wood burner to snuggle up in front of, has a large flat-screen TV, books & games to enjoy and stunning views across the countryside. From the lounge, you will enter the kitchen diner, which is equipped with full-size appliances. The kitchen has everything you need to enjoy a home-cooked meal, BBQ or takeaway, or simply make a coffee & toast before you head out for the day. From the kitchen area, you will walk down the corridor. To the right is the smaller bedroom which is compact and cozy but comfortable, fitted with a queen size bed. We'd say this room is suitable for a single adult or older child, or up to two younger children. To the left is the modern bathroom which has a full-size toilet and shower, and a vanity unit with an electric charger point for toothbrushes and shavers. Next to the bathroom is a storage area for shoes, keys & other bits and bobs. There are bowls in this area to feed and water your four-legged friends, and hooks for their leads and ball throwers. Finally, at the end of the corridor is the master bedroom. In here you will find a comfortable double bed, ample space for your pet bed if they like to be close at night, and a large wardrobe with plenty of storage for all the family's gear. Harmony Hut is in a great location to enjoy all that Cornwall has to offer. Within a 10-minute walk, you have access to The Flicka Donkey Sanctuary, and 2 reservoirs. Argal is a fishing lake and has a cafe, whilst College reservoir is a nature reserve. Both are lovely to walk around. In the village of Mabe you will find a local pub, village store and a children's playground/skate park. Walk on for another 15 minutes for the world-class Verdant Taproom who also serve wood fired pizzas. Within a 10-minute drive, you have access to 10+ beaches, Penryn, Falmouth, Flushing & the Helford! Catch a ferry over the Fal to the quaint fishing village of St Mawes, or take a drive to the Lizard Peninsula, an area of outstanding beauty and a world heritage site. Guest access The entire property and private garden are yours to enjoy. There can be parking available on the large double drive, but notice must be provided as this is a "working" drive and we need access to it at all times to take the occasional pallet delivery. Therefore you may need to move your vehicle at a moment's notice during a working day - Monday to Friday. There is free parking available in a lay-by opposite, but to access it, you need to walk across a busy road that only quietens from about 7 pm. The ground leading up to the entrance of the hut is flat. Small stones/pea shingle is laid down that you will need to walk on until you reach the wood decking. When wet, the decking can be slippery and not suitable for people with mobility aids. The entrance to the hut is via 2 doors. Both are raised off the decking approximately 5cm/2". Other things to note Harmony Hut is located on a corner of our property, which is next to a lively road. The road quietens down between 7 pm and 7 am. Tractors frequent the road as this is a busy farming community. Large trucks, caravans, and other vehicles also use the road, since it is a gateway to The Helford (which is arguably Cornwall's most picturesque estuary). We built the main raised decking area so that we could get the most of the breathtaking views. Whilst sat in this area, you can see and hear the traffic in the background. We lived in the hut for 3 years (as we were renovating our house) and whilst we were aware of the road, the views in front of us and the outdoor area that we created overwhelmed the annoyance. Just something to be aware of. If you're looking for a complete escape from busy life then this might not be the place for your retreat. We also live on the property in our granite house/home. The hut is a private space and once you shut the gate, you will hardly be disturbed. The entrances to The Hut and our house are quite far apart. We have a stove installation company and work from home. Two or three of our employees may attend the property some mornings for an hour from 7.30 am and also possibly at the end of a working day. There is no central heating in The Hut. The main source of heat is a HETAS-registered, easy-to-use, efficient & clean burning Eco 5kw log burner. A large amount of kiln-dried logs, eco-logs & kindling are provided for free and should last an entire week of frequent use. If you need more fuel, it is chargeable at cost value. There is also an electric heater available. The 2nd bedroom is small and has a queen-sized bed that just about takes over the entire room. If two adults stay in the bed, one of you will have to climb over the other to get out of the bed!
