Located on the beachfront of Playa Hermosa on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, about 7km south of Jacó, Tortuga del Mar mends the original beauty of a tropical lodge with its exquisite setting right on a pristine black sand beach. Set in a tropical garden with beachfront pool, shaded yoga and lounging decks, you'll stay right at the beach and steps from Hermosa's world class surf. Your Turtle Beach Studio is a spacious 275 sq.ft. unit with a private bathroom and located on the 1st floor, directly facing the ocean (great views!) It is equipped with A/C, WiFi access, ceiling fan and a mini-fridge, electric cook top, coffee-maker, kitchen sink and basic pots, cups, plates, and utensils. There is one queen size bed, and the sofa can be turned back into a twin size bed, both with orthopaedic matresses. This unit sleeps up to 2 guests. You will have access to the entire garden and pool area, yoga and lounge deck, direct beach access and an open car park area on the road side of the property. We'll be happy to welcome you checking in, and we provide a little map. There is a 24/7 emergency service available via messenger or phone if any problems should arise. Playa Hermosa has the best of everything: A beautiful, deserted beach, a lush backdrop of rainforst covered hills, the clean, warm Pacific waters, consistent waves for surfing, and a quiet, laid back ambiance while tourist hub Jacó with more restaurants, night life and all services is a conveniently close but not too close 5 mile drive away. You can surf, hike into the hillside to watch birds and other wild life, stroll along the beach and enjoy the few cozy restaurants, bars and shops located in walking distance. Some things to consider, though: The beautiful black sand gets really hot during the day time; and the beach is not really good for swimming, it has strong waves and rip currents, depending on the season. The surf in Hermosa gets hollow and powerful, best for intermediate to expert surfers. It is recommended to look for the best surf spots along the 5 mile beach and in the entire area as conditions are variable depending on tide, swell and wind conditions. Finally, Playa Hermosa is still a small beach hamlet in Costa Rica, so please do not expect perfect, fast cellphone coverage and internet access. The power cuts have become fewer, though ;) Getting around by public bus is slow, but cheap in Costa Rica - the bus stop is located about 300 yards away, up on the coastal road next to the mini-market. Bus from/to San José, Puntarenas, Quepos, Manuel Antonio and Uvita stop in Playa Hermosa. Private shuttle buses are available, and taxi cabs and shuttle vans can be called at any time. We have an open parking lot on the road side of the property at your convenience; as it is small, please don't bring more than one car. A space on the parking lot can't be guaranteed but you can also park on the little road out back. As anywhere in Costa Rica, please do not leave your car unattended while having anything valuable inside. Tortuga del Mar is a sociable but tranquil place where you'd like to relax and enjoy the sounds of nature; it is not a place for spring break style parties and night life. Internet access can be quite fast, really slow or down for a bit - whatever connection speed the cable company provides at the moment. Not suitable for online work, upload of larger quantities of data, online trading etc. - also, no power, no internet connection! Power cuts have become less frequent but still happen. Internet connection is a courtesy service provided when available and cannot be guaranteed.
