Frieden Lodge

Description

Frieden Lodge is located within a five-minute walk of the main street of Hahndorf. This town's history makes it the oldest German Settlement in Australia. It is brimming with heritage and culture. The house itself pays homage to the peaceful ways of early settlement but incorporates just enough modernism so that you won't feel out of time. You will find yourself secluded from the hustle and bustle to enjoy nature. Local wineries and all that Hahndorf has to offer surround you. The space Frieden (Peace in German) Lodge sits on over 1000 square metres of land, divided into four separate garden spaces, each with unique aspects. From its breakfast-front Patio, looking out toward the street and surrounding stone cottages, you really get the feel of what is so beautiful about Hahndorf itself. Its backyard fire pit and gazebo, nestled under a large Wisteria tree adorned with subtle fairy lights and lanterns, create a magical ambience as night falls, perfect for outdoor entertaining, intimate gatherings, or quiet contemplation. Our manicured garden during the season offers a variety of mature fruit trees, branches laden with juicy, ripe fruits. You can pluck a fresh apple or pick succulent mulberries straight from them, savouring delightful flavours. Birds chirp melodiously, adding to the symphony of nature that surrounds you. Butterflies flutter gracefully from flower to flower, their vibrant colours enhancing the enchanting atmosphere. Or lay about in the double hammock amongst the bushland garden and watch the sun dance through the leaves as your day passes. Overall, these four tantalising garden spaces offer a haven of tranquillity and beauty. In this sanctuary, you can immerse yourself in nature's embrace and find serenity away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A bit of History. The original allotment of land this property was part of included the properties of Numbers. 1, 2, and 3 on Male Cresent. This allotment's earliest records date back to 1839. It wasn't until 1967 that Trevor Schneemilch, a log cutter in Hahndorf, sold a portion of the farm to form Lot 1 Male Crescent. This eventually split into the three land titles. From 1967 to 1970, the House of Frieden Lodge was bought and transported to 2 Male Crescent. Its original location was on a farm in Mount Barker, where it was used as a Shearers' quarters. It was then also used as a workers' quarters for farm hands on 2 Male Crescent. Guest access You have private access to the whole house and garden spaces. The entire property is yours to enjoy. Only the back work shed and garage are closed off. Relax on a sunlit porch, where daydreams arise to the rustle of leaves. Indulge in a privately spaced outdoor cast iron bath. Let the warm waters soothe any troubles away. Find a cozy nook within the house or outside, book in hand and allow time to slow down. Enjoy the warmth under the stars as you sit around the fire pit and chat the night away, flames dancing before you. The well-appointed kitchen allows you the space to cook any meal you desire. Dim the loungeroom lights, and grab some soft cushions and cozy blankets to snuggle in as you watch a movie. Come and experience what Frieden Lodge and Hahndorf have to offer you.
