The space Oakhill Ponds is a 25 acre off-grid retreat site with large ponds, together an acre in size where the water rises fresh from the Mendip Hills. It's a spacious site; in the winter season Alice shares the site with one other hut, in the summer with a further 4 tents. Alice has been hand-built by the renowned Blackdown Shepherds huts. She is clad and dressed in oak. Inside there is a drop-down king-size bed with French linen bedding and wool Devon duvets. There is a hot-shower with quality organic toiletries. A well equipped kitchen with fridge and gas hob. The cabin has a wood- burner for heating and wi- fi throughout. There are robes, towels, toiletries all provided All our accommodation is off-grid without compromising on comfort and luxury. Solar power provides phone chargers, lighting, hot showers, DAB Roberts radio. There is fresh filtered spring-water to drink and a wood burning fire with a complimentary basket of wood. Here is the chance to live lightly and well in nature. Alice sits by the wildlife meadow a few minutes walk from the large ponds. We have planted a garden edged with beech and hornbeam and created a small outdoor cooking and dining area. There is also a Fatboy hammock and a small pond & wildlife area. Here, you have your own Hikki Bohemen wood-fired hot tub and a complimentary box of wood. The perfect place to soak under the stars. You are welcome to bring your own extra wood or we can provide more at cost price. Get closer to nature and reconnect with yourself and your environment. It is less than a minutes walk to the off-grid spring-fed spa where you can enjoy hot-cold therapy with a Finnish style wood-fired sauna with cold dips in the pond or cold plunge tank. So refreshing and so good for you. When you book this for a morning afternoon or evening - the space will be exclusively yours. The sauna sits next to the steps to the leisure pond. Oakhill Ponds is an old wilderness garden, with an extraordinary collection of spring-fed ponds, waterfalls and a grotto that is gradually being brought back to life. It is a sanctuary for wildlife – buzzards,owls and kingfishers, butterflies and bats and a deer family. And children of any age should not be left unattended around deep water. Our policy is for no under-12 year olds. This is a quiet and nature-rich space perfect for those looking for a quiet getaway. We supply a complementary basket of wood, kindling & firelighters to make the hut cozy on your first night but please consider bringing your own wood for the hot tub and additional nights heating. We can sell you more wood if you need it. And an exclusive walled garden with a Yurt and garden room that sleeps 4. There is some road-noise on site but birdsong is predominant. The advantage of being near an 'A 'road is the convenience of easy access to nearby places such as Bath, Frome, Wells & Bruton. Ours is an off-grid site with compost toilets. They are hygienic, do not smell and make sense ecologically. They are regularly serviced and cleaned by us. It's organic, hygienic and good for the planet.
