Our sister property, 'Salmon House' accommodates 7 additional guests just a short walk down the lane. The space Acorn Cottage is a luxury three-bedroom lakefront hideaway nestled among the oak trees. It is one of only two houses on Madams's Island, a small private island at scenic Caragh Lake, set within a Special Area of Conservation that includes Killarney National Park, Macgillycuddy Reeks, and the Caragh River Catchment. Acorn Cottage is the perfect place to experience the beautiful, majestic outdoors. Walking, hiking, swimming, kayaking, cycling, Or simply relax and unwind in a spacious, cosy, well-appointed cottage with beautiful views. The living room overlooks the lake, and with an open fire, comfy sofas, and original artwork, it is the perfect place to rest and relax. The dining area opens onto a stone-clad patio with an outdoor fireplace and a new BBQ, so whatever the time of year, it's the ideal setting for long lazy lunches with friends and family. The kitchen is fully equipped—perfect for preparing delicious meals—and offers additional seating for breakfast or a quick cup of tea before heading back out into the water. The house sleeps 7 people with three bedrooms and three bathrooms - one en-suite family room with a double bed and a single bed, one twin room, and one king-sized double room, and an additional two bathrooms. The beds are cosy and comfortable, with goose-down quilts, cotton bedding, and luxurious mattresses. For the lazier days, there's a TV in the living room. You can take the short path down to the shore for a refreshing swim. Picnic blankets and lake towels are available to enjoy the water, green grass, and scenery. If you fancy, you can arrange for kayaks —booking is required for these, so please inquire before your stay regarding rates and availability. Bicycles are also available to rent in nearby Glenbeigh or Kilorglin. For larger family gatherings, we can also accommodate a further 7 guests at Salmon Cottage, the equally luxurious sister property a short walk down the lane. HELPFUL INFORMATION: Just 40 minutes by car from Kerry Airport, Acorn Cottage is a great base to enjoy the surrounding area, McGillicuddy Reeks, which includes the highest mountain in Ireland, Carrauntoohil. This makes for dramatic views and breathtaking nearby walks, many of which are accessible right from the house. Rossbeigh Beach is just a 15-minute drive away. It is a golden sand beach that stretches for 7 beautiful kilometers and offers breathtaking views of the mountains on the Dingle Peninsula. It is the perfect beach walk. On the way to Rossbeigh is the lovely small village of Glenbeigh, which has a fantastic bakery, Emilie's. In addition to great bread and cakes, there is delicious lunch and sourdough pizza, as well as many other delights. Glenbeigh also has a lively pub and two hotels that are great for eating and drinking. There is also a shop for your groceries. Just 20 minutes' drive away, there are also excellent restaurants in the bustling local town of Kilorglin, including Kingdom 1795, which is on its way to Michelin recognition, and the cosy local favorite, The Bianconi. Kilorglin also has grocers, cafés, butchers, and local artisanal food. For a taste of Irish culture, K-Fest is an arts and music festival held during the bank holiday weekend in June. Or Puck Fair, one of Ireland's oldest fairs, which is held in Kilorglin in August. This is a fantastic location to tour the breathtaking scenery of the Ring of Kerry around the Iveragh Peninsula, or head over to Dingle Peninsula and take the Sea Head drive. A little farther afield, you have the awe-inspiring Skelligs, a UNESCO World Heritage site featured in the final scenes of Star Wars-The Force Awakens, Killarney National Park for cycling, Muckross House, a waterfall hike, and much more to choose from. For the very fit, challenge yourself with the Big 5 Guided adventures of the Reeks District, where in 5 days, you climb Ireland's highest mountain, kayak the length of Lake Caragh, surf Inch Beach, cycle the Ring of the Reeks and stand-up paddleboard on Cloon Lake.
