Trollheim, a classic ME A-frame
Description
Welcome to Trollheim! A little piece of Sugarloaf history, this classic Maine A-frame is about a mile from the access road to the mountain and sits on the Carrabassett River. It's an ideal spot for families, mountain bikers, golfers, hikers and leaf peepers! (And skiers, of course!) Make some memories outside and then grill out on the deck or relax around the fire pit — both right along the river. Or cozy up inside and pick from our epic collection of DVD and VHS (yep!) movies. The space Trollheim is a classic, rustic A-frame. The main floor has a kitchen that's fully stocked with all the essentials, and an open dining and living space. There's a long table for meals and games, cozy couches for movies and hanging, and a wood stove for when the evening gets chilly. You can access the back deck from here, too, which has the grill and a couple of adirondack chairs for enjoying the views of the river. Downstairs, you'll find the bathroom, with a tub/shower, as well as two bedrooms. You'll also find the door to the backyard, which leads you down to the fire pit and the river. Off the main floor, you'll see a ladder that takes you to the top level (the peak of the "A") Up there are two more bedrooms, one with two low twin beds and another with a full-sized bed. It's rustic and has a few quirks — the well water is fine for washing dishes, showers and brushing teeth, but it has a sulfur smell to it. We'll keep the place stocked with drinking water for you :) And though we do our best with pest control, you will likely see some flies! While we wish this was accessible to all, unfortunately this space wouldn't work well for anyone in a wheelchair. Other things to note Trollheim is just a 5 minute drive from Sugarloaf, meaning easy access to restaurants, golf, hiking and more. There are other great options nearby too, like an access point to the Appalachian Trail (10 min), the mountain biking at the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center (2 min), and the Narrow Gauge Pathway hiking and biking trails (2 min). Drive north a half hour or so, and you can take a dip in Flagstaff Lake. Rangeley is 35 minutes away.
