The space A 600-metre hike away from the roadside bustle of an increasingly popular hill station brings you to this half-acre retreat. Here, a young micro forest is taking shape, gradually becoming a sanctuary for the native trees and birds. The abode sits alongside fertile farms and fruit orchards carefully tended by neighbouring local families. From here, the valley opens out towards the majestic snow-clad peaks of the mighty Himalayas — Nanda Devi, Trishul, Panchachuli, and more. ___________________________ ✨ Experiences of Shoonya ✨ unfolds through a series of spaces inviting moments of solitude and celebration of togetherness. They create an ambience where creativity flows — through shared laughter, good food and drinks, music, dance, games, ideas, art, philosophy, and unpretentious intimacy. 🌱 Miyawaki Walkway — The entrance to Shoonya begins beneath the gentle shade of young native trees. As you walk through this young Miyawaki forest, a small seating pod appears along the path — a spot where sunlight streams like a gentle spotlight by day, and the stars appear brighter by night. 🏛️ Kriti — The recreational hall designed to draw everyone into its warmth and spaciousness. Framed by tall glass windows that open out to magnificent views of the Himalayas, it becomes a natural gathering space — where conversations linger, music finds its way into the room, creativity quietly unfolds, and time together feels unhurried. 🔥 Fire & Feast — Shaped by one's childhood memories of Mithila’s Dalaan—a breezy, open hut at the front of the home for gatherings, play, and lazy summer naps. Blending gently with the surrounding farms and orchards, this earthy farm hut invites you to feast on the flavours of Kumaon, slow-simmered over a wood fire—or simply pause, reflect, and absorb the quiet rhythm of mountain village life. 🌞 Sun & Fire Lounge — A fine example of stone masonry, this half-moon bonfire spot surrounded by trees sits perfectly for sunlit breakfasts and 🍢barbecues over the warmth of a wood-fire. 🌀 Floating Crest — Climb through the spirals to reach this top-view deck and feel afloat in the unfathomable span of the Himalayas. On clear nights, travel quietly back in time as you gaze into the celestial sky. 🎶 The Listening Room — Birds sing, the wind whistles, and leaves rustle in chorus as you sit in this glass room — either to listen and be mesmerised, or to slowly fall into their rhythm and rediscover your own. 🏹 Willow Ground — Swing the racket for a friendly badminton game, or pull the bow to attempt a bull’s eye — all while enjoying your favourite beverage. 🏡 Stay Units: While these corners set the stage for a meaningful getaway at Shoonya, the stay units subtly complete the experience — offering comfort, pleasing aesthetics, and a sense of privacy and exclusivity. ___________________________ There are three residential units housing 6 rooms. They are positioned to maintain apt proximity yet sparse enough to avoid clutter. Each room offers a unique layout, private entrance, and exclusive outer areas. 🌿 1. Ivy Cottage — Draped in graceful English ivy planted along its very foundation and climbing its weathered walls, this cottage carries the quiet charm of aging gracefully with time. Each room features exquisite pinewood interiors, where classic architectural elegance blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. It houses three rooms across two levels. On its first floor are Ivy Loft and Ivy Quad, while Ivy Coupe sits on the ground floor beside our guest kitchen. The unit comfortably accommodates up to nine guests with four double beds and one single bunk bed. **Ivy Loft's's bathroom is detached, right at its entrance. Washroom of Ivy Coupe is attached through a discreet ~10-step alley** 🌾 2. Mrida — Inspired by the life-nourishing fertile soil of the adjoining farms, these two identical rooms feature mud-coated interior walls that evoke an immersive mountain farm-stay experience. Designed with a smaller layout, these twin rooms offer a cozy and comforting character, with thoughtfully placed elements that enhance their earthy charm. A shared, view-facing balcony with an openable partition often leaves one quietly absorbed in the scenery beyond. 🏕️ 3. Iyashi Cabin — A mountain cabin for two — born from a young man’s dream of building a tiny home in the solace of the mountains to share with his beloved. [It can be booked only when a sixth room is required] ____________________ 👩‍🍳 Hospitality & Operations: The entire place operates with the technical structure of a boutique resort, supported by a close-knit team of two managers and 5-6 supporting members who manage food and services. Yet, the ambience and vibe remain that of a holiday home. The Hosts personally oversee guest experiences. All staff members are from the local region, blending professional hospitality practices with a demeanor deeply rooted in these hills — an imperfect perfection that quietly reflects in the flavours and the vibes we serve. 🍽️ Food At Shoonya, meals are an integral part of the experience. Everything is freshly prepared in our homely kitchen using seasonal ingredients wherever possible—from comforting everyday favourites to the indigenous flavours of Kumaon. We avoid artificial colours and pre-mixed gravies, allowing simple, wholesome food to take centre stage. We offer two dining options: 1. À la Carte Order from our à la carte menu anytime during your stay. You'll only be charged for what you order. 2. Set up a tent, enjoy some flavourful snacks and drinks, and let conversations wander as the sky slowly changes colour. 💧Village Waterfall Trek — The trail winds through village farms, orchards, water springs, and family homes, offering a gentle introduction to the rhythm of life here. The final stretch descends along forest stair trails to a secluded waterfall. Except during the rainy season, the stream may be modest, but it is the journey through the village and the quiet seclusion of the place that truly enrich the experience. 🌲 Day tour to Ekaant — A passionately curated day trek unveiling the raw beauty of the Mukteshwar hills, accompanied by Nandu’s warmth and hospitality. The trail passes through majestic oak and rhododendron forests and along a ridge before opening out to a 360-degree viewpoint with surreal vistas. If walking back through the forest after dark feels comfortable in Nandu's company, staying on to witness the sunset can become a profound experience in the quiet embrace of its solitude. Around the property you may encounter Apple, Kafal and a few other friendly village strays who often wander by to say hello. While we do host pets, we refrain from calling ourselves a completely pet-friendly space. A few simple restrictions help maintain hygiene and comfort for all guests. Pets are not allowed on beds or sofas, and access to certain common dining areas is restricted. Pet fee is applicable. Pet beds and bowls can be arranged, and while we do not maintain a dedicated pet menu, we will gladly try to arrange your pet’s favourite food with prior notice. Wi-Fi speed: Ivy Cottage: 30-100mbps+ Mrida unit: 20mbps+ Fire & Feast: 50 mbps+ There is no WIFI in the Iyashi cabin though. 2. Power & Electricity Power cuts are infrequent and short. Though extreme weather and rare major faults can disrupt the electricity supply. Power back-up: Jumbo Inverter 5 Kw Generator During a power outage, only one geyser can be used at a time across the premises. Iyashi Cabin does not have power backup. Battery lamps and candles will be arranged if needed. 3. Guests are requested to refrain from feeding local pet visitors. They should also not be encouraged into common or private indoor spaces. 4. Water is extremely scarce in this region—every single drop you save makes a real difference. 5. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 6 am— we are committed honour them to respect the surroundings, its birdlife, and the community’s daily rhythms.
