Nestled on a hillside overlooking the historic and peaceful Grassy Creek valley, Carolina Pines is a modern mountain home with all of the thoughtful touches you are looking for in a relaxing getaway. This 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom one-level home features multiple porches, gorgeous pastoral views from every direction, a garage, and a large yard for the family to enjoy. Take a short walk to The Old Store and grab a tasty treat or shop their selection of local crafts and unique gifts! The space Carolina Pines did not suffer any damage from Hurricane Helene, thankfully, nor did The Old Store at Grassy Creek. We are easily accessible from Highway 16, so you should have no problem getting to us. More about Our House Our house has 3 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. It is all one level and has a two car garage (very unique in the High Country!). Bedroom 1 has a king bed, two nightstands with USB ports, dresser, chair, large closet, personal TV, and personal deck. Bathroom 1 is a master bath with jacuzzi tub and plenty of storage and is privately accessed by Bedroom 1. Bedroom 2 has two twin beds, one nightstand and USB port, and a large closet. There is also a folding cot in Bedroom 2 (stored in the closet). Bedroom 3 has a queen bed, two nightstands with USB ports, chair, dresser and large closet. Bathroom 2 is a full bath with plenty of storage space and towel racks. Beach towels are located in the closet. The living room has a recliner couch, recliner chair, large screen TV, and gas fireplace. It is connected to the dining area and kitchen. The kitchen is large and fully outfitted. There is a dining room table and a countertop with barstools. The laundry room has a washer, dryer, drying rack, and plenty of space to fold clothes! There is a front deck, a back deck, fire pit, apple trees, and plenty of space for kids to run around. Groceries and Supplies We try to keep some basic cleaning and laundry supplies and toiletries in the house at all times. You may consider bringing in groceries. The Old Store has all the usual things - speciality foods, frozen meals, basic supplies, hot dogs, sandwiches, baked items, snacks, treats, drinks, ice, but the closest full service grocery store is 20-30 minutes away. Other things to note Pets We allow small, non-shedding pets or crate trained pets for a fee. We do not allow pets on the furniture. As a family with allergies, even non-shedding pets leave dander on furniture that cannot be removed even with deep cleaning. Groceries & Household Items The closest grocery stores are in Jefferson NC (Food Lion), West Jefferson NC (Ingles), and Independence VA (Food City). All of them are 20-30 minutes away. The largest selection is at Ingles. The Old Store is just down the road and has some food and household items, including prepared frozen meals. Rural FYIs Since we are in a rural area, it's very dark at night. However, Carolina Pines is not too far off the main roads and the way to get to us is fairly easy. Not too many twists and turns and no gravel roads. Cell service is spotty, so make sure you know where you're going before you set out. Accessibility Carolina Pines is all one level, with wide hallways and a large master bath. There are a few steps to the front door from the front porch and one step from the garage into the home. The Old Store We are 0.25 miles from The Old Store at Grassy Creek. The Old Store is a newly renovated historic general store that is open every day, year round. They have local foods, gifts, fresh baked items, treats, etc. Seasonally, they have a blueberry patch and Christmas tree lot. Grayson Highlands State Park Grayson Highlands State Park is located in neighboring Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. It is 30 minutes away via main roads and 15 minutes away via backroads. Near Mount Rogers and Whitetop Mountain, Virginia's two highest mountains, Grayson Highlands offers scenic views of alpine-like peaks more than 5,000 feet high. Facilities include a visitor center, campgrounds, and hiking trails leading to waterfalls, overlooks, and the famous wild ponies! Scenic horse trails and a horse camping area with electric and water hookups, stables and parking for trailers are available. The park provides year-round access to the Appalachian Trail and the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail. New River State Park The New River State Park U.S. 221 access and Visitor Center is a 20 minute drive away. The U.S. 221 access offers hiking trails, picnic shelters, RV or tent camping, and paddling access. A visitor center with an exhibit hall complements interpretive programs on the river’s history and ecology. The picnic shelters, as well as a community building, can be rented for family or group gatherings. Unseen Pass Unseen Pass offers UTV Rentals and backroad routes all over Ashe County, including routes through Grassy Creek and to The Old Store. A fun and unique way to experience our end of the county. New River Outfitters Ashe County boasts various outfitters that provide canoes, kayaks, tubes, and fishing along the New River.
