Description

Located on the Susitna River, walking distance from downtown Talkeetna. A nice view of Denali and the Alaska range can be seen from the kitchen table or deck. Bar b q, internet, tv. My place is an old rustic a frame type Cabin with large windows, located within feet of the river. Compost type toilet, city water, shower, towels, queen size bed. It's very basic and comfortable for two people. I require that you read and understand the full description. It's not a lodge or hotel.. it's my home. The space Clean and comfortable rustic in appearance, but it is not for everybody.. Some expecting more of a high end lodge or hotel, which this is not. It is a small comfortable cabin on the river with a great view and close walking distance to town. You have the whole cabin to yourselves. One level, Very large and tall windows face to the north to view the river and the Alaska Mountain Range. Yes, you can see Denali, Hunter, and Foraker, from the living room and outside deck. As the photos show, there is no railing on the deck.. if your the type who needs to stand on the edge of the deck with martini in hand, or if you have to move my deck chairs to the very edge of the deck, please do not rent my cabin.. it is for that reason that I do not allow children under the age of 12. Enjoy it and think common sense safety. A WORD OR THREE REGARDING ODORS........... Although SMOKING IS NOT ALLOWED INSIDE, smoking is ok outside ON THE DECK. THERE IS A METAL CAN FOR THOSE WHO SMOKE... On occasion some guests have smoked inside.. I have had a few guests mention that they smelled faint smoke odor.. the same have mentioned a faint odor of cooking.. Also some have burned incense sticks, although some like it, most do not... even the use of candles can leave an odor.. The heater is a Toyo that burns kerosine oil.. it is easy to use... Never shut it off. .. turn it down but never shut it off.. when shut off it does leave a small residual in the bin can... that can result in a very slight odor but does not last very long and hardly noticeable.. I will explain all of that to you during our walk through the house.. Obviously, when we have a tree fall on a power line the power maybe off for an hour or so until power is restored to our town.. that of course shuts the Toyo off.. this happened not long ago, and the guest noticed an odor... Nothing we can do about that... it happens...READ ALL THE REVIEWS..... We do our best at cleaning.. but it is an old cabin...Do not expect the place to be like a newly built house or hotel.. Every season we buy new bedding, pillows, blankets, sheets... We use an OZONE AIR FILTERING SYSTEM which has been very effective at removing any odors ALONG WITH ANY PARTICLES ASSOCIATED WITH COVID...I also have a 24/7 air filter.. I have many old instruments, guitars, banjos, mandolins, etc., hangin on the walls.. Most of those have been played in smoke filled bar rooms..They have been cleaned but still present a mix smell of smoke, whisky, glue, and varnish.. Honestly, you would have to put your nose up to the instrument to notice.. just what it is... If you are extremely sensitive to these odors, then i would suggest staying elsewhere.. Again, its an old cabin, so expect as much with regards to odors.. All about the bathroom: Compost toilet... for those who don't know, it is a waterless toilet.. much cleaner and safer then the toilet you have in your home.. separates the solids from liquids. Turns solid waste into harmless useable compost that eventually is spread out in portions of the non edible landscape. There is no Oder.. Cooking: If you want to bar b q, I have a charcoal/propane unit with a one burner stove top. You can cook all the heavy stuff, bacon, fish, onions, garlic etc. outside.. Absolutely NO heavy greasy cooking inside.. if you want to cook a pizza or warm up a dish in the oven, that's fine, but steak, pork, hamburger, fish, the heavy stuff, outside propane burner and grill works fast. If this is an issue, I would suggest not staying here.. Please understand that I have new guests checking in most every day. So please feel free to cook your meats, garlic, onions etc. on the outside burner stove or the propane grill. The guests who stay after you leave will appreciate that. I have one frying pan that is more then adequate to cook enough food for two people and a few various sized pots with basic cooking, eating tools found in the average home kitchen. If you are expecting a kitchen with a dozen sized frying pans, pasta makers, a gourmet kitchen this is not.. it is basic.. For those of you who live in town, coming up for a quick skiing escape, prepare/cook your bacon, heavy cooked meals at home. Cook there, eat here.. I have a large freezer with bags of ice and fridge if you buy steaks, etc. for bar b q grilling.. I do keep mesquite wood, and briquettes, lighter fluid and you welcome to use what I have. My only request is that you clean up after yourselves.. There is no grocery store here in Talkeetna. There is one, Cubbys, located just before you turn onto the Talkeetna Spur road, about 15 miles from my place.. driving up from Anchorage, or Wasilla, pick up what you need or expect to eat out. There is no food delivery service. Old cabin, chalet, old wood. Comfortable and clean, but very rustic in appearance. So look over the photos, if you have any questions please ask. I want to insure that you know exactly what you are renting. Guest access lower level, living room, Sat HD TV, WiFi, kitchen, bathroom, outside deck, hammocks, huge bar b q grill on deck, seasonal garden. While you are here, it is your home, private, with no other people on the property except myself working the garden or landscaping. Although the photos may show a Jacuzzi on the deck, for obvious health and cleaning reasons it remains empty during summer season.I have a back room that I use for laundry and storage and a loft for storage of my personal items. The river is not an easy access. Steep terrain from the deck to the river. Fishing from the property is not authorized. Regulations are always changing regarding when and where and for what your fishing for.. for liability reasons I do not allow fishing from my property. Other things to note I do not rent fishing gear. I do not rent canoes or kayaks rafts or bikes. Noise.. it's a busy town with trains, planes, cars.. bedroom has been moderately sound proofed since I did use it as a recording Studio. You will note others who have said the bedroom is very quiet, which it is. The place is very conveniently located which seems to be about right for most everyone. I am about a half mile from Main Street Talkeetna, about two blocks from a great bar and place to eat called the Latitude 62. The Airport is nearly across the street and the the same for the train depot. I do not provide transportation to and from the train depot or the Airport. My place is not a hunting or fishing lodge and I do not provide any guide services.
