Welcome to La Hut Serein, our peaceful shepherds hut close to the Brocéliande Forest. Ideal for couples or small families (up to 4), our hut offers a comfortable and unique stay in a natural setting. Enjoy a fully equipped covered outdoor kitchen, private shower area with an eco-friendly composting toilet. Relax outside with seating and space to dine, read, or simply enjoy the surroundings. Perfect for nature lovers, walkers, and those looking to switch off and explore the Brocéliande area. The space Immerse yourself in nature - a stay in La Hut Serein is like camping but better! An ideal base for all your adventures in Brittany. Once you have arrived, there is no real need to leave - just chill out, listen to the birdsong & totally relax. However, if you want to explore, there is plenty to see in the surrounding area. La Hut Serein is in central Brittany, at the edge of the Brocéliande Forest, a place steeped in local myths 🦌 & Arthurian legends 🧚 A visit to Paimpont, including La Porte des Secrets is a must (book tickets online in advance to avoid disappointment, especially during holiday times). Equally unmissable is a hike through Le Val Sans Retour, where you’ll pass the iconic L’Arbre d’Or (The Golden Tree) and enjoy a peaceful stroll through the charming village of Tréhorenteuc, home to the evocative Église du Graal. Beyond these highlights, you will find a variety of ancient sites set within the Forest. There are events and exhibitions hosted throughout the year offering something for all ages and interests. Check the Destination Brocéliande tourism website for the latest updates, event details, and hiking trail information. Other options for a day out (mostly within an hour’s drive): • Wander the streets & maybe stay for a meal in one of the many pretty Breton towns & villages, with their medieval timber framed buildings & beautiful floral displays. (Josselin, Auray, Rochefort-en-Terre, Vannes to name a few). • Discover the ancient standing stones or menhirs which are dotted all around the land. Stones of interest are often signposted & marked on local maps. • Enjoy tranquil lakes for gentle walks or more strenuous hikes, great for bird spotting. Some have children’s playgrounds & areas for sunbathing as well as all kinds of water sports if you’re feeling more energetic. (Lac au Duc, Lac de Guerledan, Lac de Tremelin). • Plan a seaside trip to the beautiful beaches of the Gulf of Morbihan (S), or the Pink Granite Coastline (N). The area is also perfect for walkers & cyclists with trails nearby - there are excellent hiking/cycle routes & Voies Vertes (Greenways) criss-crossing Brittany. Guest access The hut has been built at the bottom of our large garden. There is plenty of space so you shouldn’t feel restricted. You will have full access to that part of the garden. A note regarding accessibility: Our shepherds hut has been built from wood & sits on a metal chassis. There are steps to access the living / sleeping area. The double bed sits quite high to accommodate the single bed below. This means that unfortunately, the hut may not be suitable for those with limited mobility or for those with busy toddlers. Other things to note Please note, the sleeping arrangements for the second child is a floor mattress. All the beds will be made up for you in advance with bed linen & pillows. Towels are also provided. The nearest bar restaurant for lunch & dinner is in St Brieuc de Mauron, 4kms from the hut. Mauron & Merdrignac are both approx. 10 minutes away for supermarkets, fuel & all amenities. Check-in & check-out times are fixed during busy periods (especially August), this is to ensure thorough cleaning & preparation between guests. But flexibility maybe possible out of season - please ask. We have an elderly dog who loves to greet people! Please let us know in advance if you would prefer him to keep his distance & we will ensure he is kept occupied elsewhere!
