Description
The Old Surgery is a self-contained annexe in a quiet location, with its own garden, private parking and EV charging facility, fifteen minutes from the medieval city of Lincoln. The surgery is set in the grounds of our family home - a house lived in by generations of village doctors from 1890 until 2004 - with a narrow gauge railway and small private museum housing the Heywood Collection of Victorian steam locomotives and rolling stock, which guests are welcome to visit. The space Situated in the grounds of a large house - home of the village doctors for generations from 1890 until 2004 - the old surgery was originally built as as a coal store in the nineteenth century. As the village grew, the doctor had to take on a partner, converting the coal store into what was to become the village surgery for the next thirty years. Nowadays the Old Surgery offers comfortable accommodation, the waiting rooms, consulting rooms and dispensary converted to two bedrooms, a living room and kitchen/diner. Located in the old part of the village, next to the churchyard, it offers easy access to the local facilities whilst remaining secluded in an acre of gardens. There is ample parking at the property. We have a 7KW EV charger with type 2 connector, operating on night rate electricity between the hours of midnight and 6am, which guests are welcome to use. In the grounds of the main house is a small private museum, dedicated to the life and work of Sir Arthur Heywood, a pioneer of "minimum gauge railways" and housing both original and replica examples of his work, including steam locomotives and rolling stock. Outside, a short line around the garden allows for occasional running of trains. The village High Street, three hundred yards from the property, has a Co-op store open from 7am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday, as well as cafes, pubs and restaurants. There is a railway station in the village, with trains to Lincoln and Peterborough, as well as a regular bus service. Guest access The Old Surgery has a small private garden which is not overlooked.
