Kloof House, Betty's Bay

Nestled in the breathtaking Kogelberg Biosphere, adjacent to the Harold Porter Botanical Gardens, Kloof House in Betty's Bay, offers a unique retreat blending modern elegance with natural beauty. The space Your stay at Kloof House promises to be a truly unique experience, surrounded by the natural beauty of this extraordinary location. The house is built high above the ground in line with the surrounding indigenous forest, offering a unique view of the local bird life and incredible views of Leopards Kloof from all bedrooms. There are three bedrooms (main en-suite with a separate dressing room and a shared full bathroom for the other two bedrooms.) It also has a library, lounge, and kitchen with all of the appliances you will need during your stay. To ensure you have a safe and relaxing time, we'd like to share some important information about our house. One of the loveliest features of Kloof House is its proximity to the local wildlife – and this includes baboons who love eating our plants and playing in our pool. While baboons are not dangerous, it's crucial to take precautions to ensure they don't enter the house as once inside they are very difficult to remove and cause extensive and significant damage to the property. Baboons are not generally dangerous or aggressive, but as with any wild animal, they need to be managed properly. Other than baboons, the property is also known to host many snake species (so please watch your step in the thick grass areas), tortoises, porcupines, genets, mongooses, spiders, and a multitude of bird life. Klipspringer buck live on the mountainside next to us. Please treat all wildlife with respect and ensure that no harm comes to them. Our natural pool thrives without the use of chemicals thanks to a carefully balanced ecosystem of aquatic plants and biological filters. The area surrounding the pool is home to a diverse array of indigenous plants, frogs, and birds. The water has a natural green colouring, and is very clean and healthy for humans and wildlife alike. In addition to the pool, we have a traditional wood-fired hot tub, which is perfect for relaxing in steaming hot water while the famous Betty's Bay winter storms rage around you. There is also a fireplace in the lounge and air conditioners in the bedrooms so that you can heat or cool the house to your liking. Guest access Our house manager will meet you at the property to give you a quick tour, let you know how to manage the baboons, and answer any questions you have. She will either meet you again to say goodbye, or you can leave the keys in our key safe. Other things to note Due to the unique location of Kloof House at the bottom of a valley, we do not have access to fibre internet. Instead, we rely on a long-range WiFi connection. While we've taken every precaution to ensure a stable connection, please be aware that, from time to time, there may be intermittent issues or temporary outages. Our maximum speed is between 10-15 Mbps. We recommend planning any important online activities or work tasks accordingly, and we appreciate your understanding and patience should you experience any connectivity challenges. The cell reception at the house is bad and we recommend using a data-enabled messaging app as your primary communication during your stay. If you need to make or receive a call, you will likely need to walk a little way up the road.
