Palmento San Nicolò

Nestled on a quiet country road in the heart of a vineyard planted on Monte San Nicolo, the accommodation includes 2 buildings, a Palmento from 1902 which houses the wine press and its outbuilding which was once used as a tool shed. The two spaces are united by a corten structure with a slatted roof, which provides a shady open plan kitchen and dining area next to a terrace and 4m x 7m salt water swimming pool, built in lava stone, recreating the the colours of the Etna coastline The space A fish pond with aquatic plants and koi surround the outside area and there is a brazier for the chillier evenings. The terrace wraps around the side of the house to provide sun and shade depending on the time of day. The design of the cosy Palmento is in harmony with the original use of the building. The higher level has a double (queen size) bed in the vat where the grapes were once pressed by feet, with a magnificent view of the vineyard stretching up the side of the crater. It opens onto a roomy en-suite bathroom with a large shower. A small sitting room is located in the vat below the bedroom, into which the pressed wine was drained. The second room, ‘Vincenzo’, has an extra large (king size) double bed; the shower in its en-suite bathroom offers a spectacular view of the vineyard. It has its own separate entrance from the kitchen and dining area. There is also a small utility room, which houses the washing machine, gas boiler and provides storage space. The structure was designed by Ciro, an architect by profession, to provide our guests with a peaceful oasis to relax in the beautiful vineyard with views of the sea to the south east and the summit of Mount Etna to the north west. Wine tastings and tours of the vineyard are available and a welcome basket with complimentary bottle of wine will be provided upon arrival.
