The Milestone.
Description
The Milestone is a special place. We have a policy of NO CHILDREN UNDER 16 & NO SMOKING, VAPING, OR RECREATIONAL DRUGS ON THE PROPERTY. The cabin was meticulously handcrafted over a 5-year period by the owners. Nestled in a native forest/garden setting, you can enjoy the calm and spacious atmosphere, whilst still having modern amenities at your fingertips. We happily welcome & cater for touring motorcycle rider's needs. The cabin is conveniently sited within 30 minutes of the ferries. The space The Milestone is a coastal (tidal arm) property in the inner Pelorus Sound. This is where native forest covers the surrounding ranges, & reaches down to meet the rugged shoreline edged with bays & coves formed by drowned river valleys. The area was once milled by settlers, but is now a sought after paradise for nature lovers, birdwatchers, hikers, watersport enthusiasts & anyone wanting to chill out. The scenery is unique & very calming. Here at the Milestone we are not overlooked by neighbours, & our guests have loved the peace & serenity. The cabin has a studio room with Queen bed, & rear room with King bed, both with super comfortable mattress toppers. Luggage racks are provided in both rooms. The bathroom leads off the King room, & is fitted with modern full size shower, hand crafted washstand, shelving, robe hooks, mirrored cabinet, fan heater, heated towel rail, & toilet. Large bath sheets, hand towels, facecloths, bathmat, hairdryer, tissues, handwash, shower gel, shampoo & conditioner are all supplied. All water to the cabin is filtered & UV treated, with hot water on demand. Rest assured, all hard surfaces are cleaned with a Covid-19 killing disinfectant prior to your stay. There are three steps between King & Queen rooms which can be lit up at night for your safety. The entertaining deck in front of the studio has been designed to utilize the vista over grassed areas & out over the water, & therefore does not have a protective balustrade, but drops less than a metre onto a grassed bank. The rear deck offers shelter as you unpack, and houses the barbecue, with all equipment supplied. You will be kept cool on hotter days with a heat pump (hot or cold air), & a multi-stage ceiling fan. On cooler nights the heat pump will warm both rooms, & the Queen bed is fitted with an electric blanket. Extra duvets/blankets are available should you require more, but full insulation keeps the cabin cosy all year around. All windows & sliding glass doors have UV shades for extra privacy. We supply tea, coffee, hot chocolate, sugar & milk. There is a bar fridge (small ice box), microwave, toaster, electric jug, coffee plunger, cutlery, crockery, cookware, utensils, & drinking glasses, plus outdoor barbecue, pots & frypans, oil, & utensils. Dishwashing equipment, paper towels, & recycling bins are all supplied . You are welcome to explore the expansive areas forward (north) of the driveway, plus gardens & forest surrounding the two large areas of grass. Whilst we have our private areas south of the drive, we encourage you to come to the house (via the carport) & knock loudly if you require our attention. We are only too pleased to help you in any way. Guest access Our property can be found opposite a wider turning space on the road, with our rapid number clearly displayed in large white numbers on the house-shaped mailbox. We are 23.5 kms from Picton (ferry terminals), or 11 kms from the port village of Havelock. Please note that our shared driveway is unsealed, so it is best to proceed up the short rise at a slow but steady pace. We have no trouble ourselves navigating the driveway in a broad range of vehicles. Once on the level, go straight ahead through the open gate. You will see The Milestone cabin on the left at the end of the drive. Feel free to park anywhere that doesn't obstruct access to the adjacent shed or carport, but we suggest you park parallel to the garden on the left, conveniently beside the covered Milestone entrance deck/barbecue area. There is plenty of room to turn vehicles around in the driveway. For those of you who arrive on motorcycles, we are more than happy to secure these in a locked garage overnight, Though we consider our area fairly safe, you'll want a dry saddle should it rain. A water tap is beside the deck & we will supply rags if you want to clean your motorbike. Tools etc. available by request. Other things to note Free Wifi is available. Mobile phone service on the property is covered by Spark. We are in a very picturesque rural area of the Marlborough Sounds, with a service station & a family tavern just one minute's drive away. The service station has a small supply of grocery essentials as well as fuel, & the tavern has dine-in or takeaway options. If time allows us, we are more than happy to drive you to the tavern at no charge. The tavern has a courtesy vehicle to bring ypu back, or we can collect you. The nearest grocery store is located in Havelock, (15 minutes drive west), as well as several other dining options, a service station, some shops & a boating marina. More shops & eateries can be found in Picton, around 30 minutes to the east, as well as ferry terminals. Guests will find The Milestone very convenient if walking the Queen Charlotte Track, Te Araroa Trail, Link Pathway (right across from our drive), or arriving/departing via the interisland ferries at Picton 23 kms away. To accommodate your ferry arrival or departure times, we can be flexible with check-in & check-out times to suit. Within an hour there are numerous things to see & do, & we can advise you of options if you let us know your particular interests. A folder in the cabin contains a lot of tourist information also. The township of Blenheim is the hub of the wine producing region of Marlborough, & is just under an hour's drive away.
