Description

The peach bedroom is on the second level and includes double bed and a private full bathroom. Guests also have access to shared spaces including a reception hall, art gallery hall, dining room, breakfast room, sun parlor, living room, wet bar and den. The expansive south lawn is also available to guests. The space MAIN HOUSE: Guests also have shared access to the first floor of this large, traditionally furnished southern home with high ceilings. GROUNDS: Large pecan trees, live oaks, and magnolia trees fill the lawns around the house. Vernacular and a formal gardens full of azaleas, gardenias, and cannas provide a haven for hummingbirds. After settling in, guests at Blueshadows usually first relax on the lawn in chairs under the pecan trees, and follow with a walk or run through wilder parts. Be sure to make time to walk “Grandfathers Nature Trail” on our property. It’s a 1.5 mile trail that starts just outside our fenced yard, headed south. It’s an 8-10 minute walk to the boat house on the 10-acre pond. The trails follows the perimeter of the pond, surrounded by old-growth hardwood timber. Reviewers often say the nature trail was a high point of their experience. Our dog, Bobby, will be your trail guide. More on the Nature Trail. The trail is marked with signs and a series of foot bridges over the creeks. (If unsure which way the trail goes, stay to the edge of the pond - the trail always returns to the edge of the water). There’s a series of beaver dams that can be seen, and evidence of beavers presence can be seen all along the trail. Quiet walkers with careful eyes often see wood ducks, deer, turkey, and beavers (swimming in the late evening), and on rare occasions, raccoon, fox and bobcat. Excursions into the natural beauty of pine and hardwood forests are followed by an easy return to the graceful comfort of the guest house. Through the years we have enjoyed seeing these peaceful settings offer our guests respite from the noise of urban life, allowing the quiet charm of the rural South to be heard. LAKE & FISHING: Wood-ducks, herons, and beaver make their homes on a 10 acre lake, an 8-minute walk from the guest house. Bass and brim are caught from two docks, and from the banks, which is reached by a system of nature trails winding along the shore. Guests use their own fishing equipment, and are requested to catch and release bass under 6 pounds. Bass over 6 pounds can be caught as well. Photos are suggested of such catches to support the general integrity of anglers :) Guest access Guests have shared access to the first floor of this spacious southern home. Spaces include a reception hall, art gallery hall, dining room, breakfast room, sun parlor, living room, wet bar and den. During your stay Miss Ann will be your on-site hosts and lives on the second level. Many of our guests have become good friends who return year after year. Other things to note Many of our guests tell us how much they enjoy walking the Nature Trail. The trail is marked with white stakes and starts immediately outside the fences yard, behind the guest house. Wear hiking or running shows shoes. Bug repellent is also recommended in the warmer seasons. Our family home for 3 generations, our grandfather built this home in 1941 over the original antebellum home site.
