Description
Unwind at The Blue Barn Nornalup, a spacious off‑grid barn and home to the Half Arked Farm, a working animal sanctuary on 58 acres of coastal bushland. This is a place where rescued animals live freely, nature sets the rhythm, and life is simple, earthy, and connected to the land. The space The Blue Barn is a light filled 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom home with a very indoor and outdoor way of living. Expect open doors, fresh air, and the natural textures of bush life, including dust, hay, feathers, pawprints, and the occasional curious visitor inside. Upstairs is my art studio, and the house is filled with abstract works and charcoal life drawings. Half Arked Farm is a self funded animal sanctuary. The animals here are orphans, rejected by their mothers, or surrendered by people who could no longer care for them. I run the farm myself, and the work is focused on keeping the animals comfortable, sheltered, fed, and safe. The sanctuary is home to sheep, cows, alpaca, dogs, cats, chickens, guinea fowl, and others who have found a home here. They wander the property, visit the house, and are very much part of your stay. You will hear them, see them, interact with them, and likely have a few waiting to say hello. Guests who want to spoil them are welcome to bring treats. Sleeping The bedrooms are clean and comfortable with solid wood beds, Tempur mattresses, and Muscle Mat toppers for extra lushness. Bedding is 100 percent cotton and 100 percent linen, with Australian wool quilts and an electric blanket for extra warmth. Off Grid Living The Blue Barn runs entirely off grid, so staying here means embracing a mindful and low impact rhythm. Water is precious. Short showers only and conservative use throughout your stay. Solar power. Electricity is limited at night and on cloudy days. Septic system. Only natural waste and toilet paper can go down the toilet, no dairy or chemicals down drains. Indoor and outdoor life. Insects, birds, frogs, and the occasional critter are part of the experience. No rubbish collection. All guests must take their rubbish with them when they leave. The Environment The property is far from the road, so it is very quiet. You will hear frogs, birds, chooks, the ocean at night, Tilly the livestock guardian dog doing her job, or a cow calling out for dinner. It is peaceful and natural, and with no light pollution the sky is filled with stars on clear nights. Children Policy Because this is a working sanctuary with free roaming animals and off grid systems, it is not set up as a child friendly environment. If you are considering bringing children, reach out and we can discuss whether it is suitable. Who This Stay Suits This stay suits people who are relaxed about nature, animals, and a lived in bush setting. You need to genuinely enjoy being around animals and the natural environment to be comfortable here. Guest access You have full access to the house and the upstairs balcony. The other bedrooms are not accessible, and the art studio is only available if arranged beforehand. During your stay I am around most of the time tending the garden and the animals if you need anything. If you are walking the Bibbulmun Track, I can pick you up locally and drop you off with prior arrangement. Other things to note I am a remedial massage therapist and yoga teacher, and guests are welcome to book a massage or a private yoga class during their stay. Registration Details STRA6333ZOFPRFS0
