It was established in 1902 and was originally part of the Irene Dairy Farm, which still operates today and is a central part of village life. Irene is 25 minutes’ drive from OR Tambo International airport, 20 minutes away from Pretoria city center, and 10 minutes’ drive from Centurion town center. We are surrounded by 3 large shopping centers with plenty of restaurants, large food retailers and chemists that are only 5-10 minutes’ drive away. Rietvlei Game Reserve is 12 minutes’ drive away. The 4 000ha game reserve is unique in that it is within Pretoria’s city boundaries and has a large diversity of wild animals. This includes rhino, buffalo, hippo, and many of the plains game such as a wide variety of antelope and zebra. Daily entrance fees are cheap - the same price as a ticket to go to the movies! This place is a real bargain if you want to see wild animals in a large reserve, and it’s just down the road. The beautiful historic Irene Dairy Farm established in the late 1800s, is 10 minutes walk away. The farm is stunning to walk around with its old buildings, and big oak trees. You can freely walk around this working farm, see and touch the baby calves, and watch their mothers being milked in the parlour. It is open during the day time from 8am -6 pm, 365 days of the year (because the cows need to be milked every day). It has 2 restaurants, and a well-stocked delicatessen farm shop, also open during the same hours. The raw milk and thick cream are legendary.
