Great holiday home in Bjarkøy, Harstad

Here, 6-8 people can relax in a rural place with soul, ocean views, and a large patio. 50 meters behind the cabin you will find the trail up to the island's lookout post. Here you'll blevel numerous islets and islands that surround the Viking Island. You have access to the sea right by the cabin, as well as nice sandy beach a stone's throw away. Access to wood and wood-fired hot tub (hot tub not available due to frost Nov-March). In addition to the bedroom, there is a crib and sofa bed in the attic living room. Distance shop and fast boat 1,4 km, 3.3 km to Harstad. The space A little about the house: The holiday home is originally a small log house from Namdalen in Trøndelag. The log house is the part that today is the living room and kitchen. The house was restored and built on in the period 2010-2016. The story tells that the log house was transported from Namdalen to Bjarkøy last in the 19th/early 20th century. It was first set up in Nergården, and later moved here to Vika. Probably the barn has had the same journey, as the timber is also numbered in the old part. There is running well water, cold and hot! Plus a dishwasher. A little about Bjarkøy and the archipelago: This property is located on a historic island mentioned in Snorre's royal sagas, and which is the homestead of the Viking chief Tore Hund and his sister Sigrid Toresdattter (Wikipedia). The property has access to both the sea, forest and hiking area. Bjarkøy offers many nice hiking areas, including to Stangheia which is the island's highest point, 238 meters above sea level. The trip there you take straight from the holiday home. You enter the hiking trail by following the path behind the barn and up to the wilderness fence. Go through the gate (remember to close it after you!) and incline lightly to the right over the open area. Up the slope you will enter the marked hiking trail (red marks on trees) which will take you to the Beinsteinbua grill house. From here you will see Stangheia to the left. From Stangheia you will have a 360 view of the island's diverse archipelago. Bjarkøy also offers war history, and one of the cultural monuments is Bjarkøy coastal fort which is about 40 minutes walking time towards Nergårdshamn. You pass both the convenience store, Krambua cafe and Bjarkøy pub and bistro on this tour. You will find more information about hiking trails and sights if you are searching "Bjarkøy" online. Bjarkøyloket is also worth a visit, and is a locomotive with two wagons standing at the "lower station" not far from the holiday home here. The locomotive was used when there was mining on the island. If you follow Fagervikveien on foot 3-4 hundred meters towards Harstad, you get the path to "Loket" on your right. Follow the path upwards through spruce forest and you will get the locomotive on your left. If you are interested in longer trips, the neighboring island of Grytøy is a good place with its high mountain areas. Sandsøy is also one of the neighboring islands with access by car, and is as flat as Bjarkøy. Here you will find among other things a cozy farm shop, and nice hiking area in pebble spring. Beach and Sea: The area by the sea, just below the house is for free use. Here it is nice to sit on the mountains and look out over the sea. The nearest beach is 150-200 meters to the right of the house when you look from the house towards the sea. In addition, there is a beach and swimming opportunity at the campsite in Leirvåg, by Bjarkøy Pub & Bistro and right by the bridge over to Sandsøy. It is also possible to take a fast boat out to Meløyvær and Krøttøy. If you have access to a boat or kayak, a visit to Sandøya and Hamnan is recommended. Bird life: There is a rich bird life on the island and occasionally we have visits from goose/geese. They are happy to visit the farm at night, and leave some droppings behind. Goose eats grass so the droppings are harmless but mostly nasty. If this occurs during your visit, remove this easily with a shovel and throw it into the grass above the barn. For those who have a boat or kayak, it is recommended to see Krykkjeberget in Sundsvollsundet. Look it up online. Midnight Sun: If you want to see the midnight sun, it is recommended to take the hiking trail up behind the holiday home and up to the mountain behind Beinsteinbua. It's amazing to enjoy silence and sunset, while getting some exercise. Otherwise, you can see the midnight sun well from, among other things, the fast boat dock or Leirvåg. Guest access Guests can use the entire area in and outside the house, as well as the area down by the lake. There is no access to the barn, annex or garage. Two cabinets in the hallway and one cabinet in bedroom no. 3 are marked private. Otherwise, everything is available to the guests. Cushions and leather for the outdoor furniture are located under the stairs in the hallway in the cabin. Other things to note There is 1 set of bed linen and 1 large and 1 small towel per person renting. Needs beyond that, at an additional cost, by agreement with the host. Parking: There is parking for 4-5 cars outside the house. Hot tub/fire pit: If you want to light a fire or a hot tub, it is possible to buy wood for it. Unfortunately, the hot tub is not available when it is the coldest in winter (November-March). There is about 1/2 - 1 sack to fire the stomp. Please see detailed description in the house manual. It is only allowed to light a fire in firepits or barbecue. There is running water from a well, cold and hot, in the house! Plus a dishwasher!
