PETRA VORI HOUSE is located in the center of South Crete and provides easy access to the entire South. It is five minutes from the award-winning beach of KOKKINOS PYRGOS and the famous beaches of KALAMAKI, KOMOS, MATALA, AGIA GALINI, LENTA, PLAKIAS, AGIA ROUMELI. Very close are the Archaeological sites of PHAISTOS, GORTYS, MESARA MUSEUM. In the mountains is Lake Zaros with the trout and further away the forest of Rouvas. Explore all of southern Crete with PETRA VORI HOUSE as your base. The space - Stone traditional house with wooden roof and view from two sides. Renovated in every detail. It consists exclusively of STONE and WOOD except for the external frames, which are sealed with aluminum, for insulation purposes. - It's a comfortable two-level house for 4 people. It includes: 1. Living room with sofa and round table, 4 chairs, large fireplace - parasia, wood stove and fully equipped kitchen, cabinets, cookware, glasses, dishes, cutlery, refrigerator, small oven, kettle, coffee maker and any other utensils you may need to prepare breakfast or main meal. 2. Bathroom: Private bathroom with shower, continuous hot water with automatic shower at 38 degrees, shampoo, white towels. 3. Bedrooms on the lower level with a comfortable double bed. There is an internal wooden staircase leading to the ontas (upper level) which is the Second Bedroom with 2 single beds (can be joined to become a double). The upper level in Crete is called "Ontas" (ontas: something like an open attic but with a wooden railing). There are comfortable pillows, white sheets, large wardrobe, autonomous cooling/heating. Ontas is a traditional way to create the feeling of a stone mansion in Crete. Outdoor equipment: The property has a courtyard where the outdoor shower and the outdoor gas stove and BBQ grill are located. That's where the washing machine is. Then in your space under the big lemon tree there is your own outdoor table with six armchairs for wonderful relaxing evenings. There's also the folding drying rack. At the front door in a special key box, after entering the code we will give you, you will get your keys. In our accommodation there is an outdoor courtyard where only the outdoor shower is common. Then in your space under the large lemon tree there is your own outdoor table with six armchairs and next to it the outdoor gas cooker and barbecue. Then you enter Entrance B. Other things to note ANCIENT TRADITION-HISTORY According to a mythological version, our village Vori (Vorori), is located in a place where the prince of Phaistos, Voros, had his summer residence. The most important place to visit for a visitor in our area is the Archaeological Site of Phaistos. The ruins of the city of Phaistos are located on a hill south of Vori on the way to MATALA. The original palace of Phaistos (1900 – 1700 BC) was built on embankments of the Neolithic and Early Minoan period (3000 – 2000 BC). This old palace, in which the basic characteristics of Minoan architecture are recognized (paved courtyards, multi-door, well-kept facades, skylights, etc.), has been destroyed and repaired twice. After a new disaster around 1700 BC its ruins were razed to the ground and the newest palace was built on them, which lasted until about 1450 BC. In the west wing, the large hall is of interest. It is a hypostyle hall with marble and a triple pillar to the central courtyard, perhaps with worship use. In the same wing there are other rooms related to worship. The central courtyard retains its paving dating back to the Old Palace period (1900-1700 BC). Only a small part of the east wing is preserved, which includes a hall with skylights and purification tanks. In the north wing are the "royal apartments". The sanctity and solemnity of these apartments are underlined by the outer wall to the central courtyard, which is broken with protrusions and recesses in a symmetrical arrangement to the central entrance framed by half-pillars, as well as the stepped altar located in the corner between the north and west wings. A long corridor and inner courtyards give access to a complex of rooms and a larger courtyard with a ceramic kiln in the center. A hypostyle "banquet hall" may have existed on a floor overlooking the central courtyard. The rest of the wing is occupied by the official apartments. There are two halls with luxurious construction (alabaster wall coverings, floor slabs, mural decoration), framed by skylights, balconies and a large colonnaded courtyard. Apart from the palace, residential complexes and a temple of the archaic period, perhaps of Rea, have been excavated to the northeast and southwest of the site. Findings from the palace are exhibited in the Heraklion Museum, such as the famous Phaistos disc, the large collection of chamber vessels with a variety of colorful decorations and much more.
