Cozy Cottage with Barrel Sauna

Welcome to Applewood Retreat, a warm and cozy studio cottage located in a country setting awaits your relaxing fall/winter getaway. After a day of exploring beautiful Vancouver Island, with its many hiking opportunities or heading back from a ski trip up Mount Washington, unwind with our Nordic Spa experience nestled among the apple trees. A combination of a hot-cold-rest circuit, featuring a wood fired barrel sauna, cold bucket dump and a period of rest by the fire pit. The space Only a 10 minute walk from the property will take you to the eccentric Goats on the Roof Market, a fun tourist location for a stroll, shop, or a quick bite to eat. The charming towns of Parksville and Qualicum Beach are both a 10 minute drive in either direction with great local restaurants and coffee shops, or head up to Mount Washington only an hour away for snow tubing, skiing & snowshoeing for some winter fun. The cottage was fully renovated both interior and exterior in 2023. Designed to be a light and bright interior with cozy elements, such as a gas fireplace and queen sized bed. Bathroom has a beautiful travertine shower with a heated towel rack and the cottage is equipped with air conditioning for your comfort. Kitchen features a heartland stove for a vintage feel, brand new island for easy food prep and seated dining. If you are planning for a longer stay the cottage is equipped with a combo washer/dryer for your convenience. Large covered porch with exterior lighting, BBQ and furniture allows guests to enjoy a coffee or meal outside rain or shine. A short walk from the cottage will bring guests to the self-serve Nordic Spa. Please note our cottage decor does change seasonally. We change for Spring/Summer, Fall, and Christmas/Winter. Guest access Self contained studio cottage with a covered porch. Come through the driveway and you will see the cottage on the right with parking directly in front. Other things to note The Nordic Spa Experience A Nordic spa also known as a thermal spa is popular in countries such as Finland and Norway, it consists of moving through a cycle of hot, cold and rest. Our self serve Nordic spa experience features: Wood-burning Finnish sauna with seating for 2 View of the fruit trees Cold water bucket dump Relaxation area by the fire pit Robes, located in the cottage You can you use all 3 features, or any individually For the sauna, 1 box of wood is provided, enough for 2 sauna uses, additional boxes can be purchased at $10.00 per box. Instructions for how to set up the whole spa are located in the Welcome Book in the cottage. If however you would prefer to have us set up the spa for you, we can do so for an additional fee.
