Description

The Hide is exactly what its name says.. a quiet hide away on a croft, on the beautiful Sleat peninsular, Isle of Skye. This 2-bedroom cabin is in a very peaceful rural location, just an 8-minute walk to nearby Loch Eishort. The Hide is the perfect base for exploring the lesser-visited Sleat peninsular, or as a comfortable, peaceful retreat after a day of visiting Skye’s more bustling attractions, or maybe just as a place to relax on the deck with a beer or coffee for a bit of bird watching. The space Please note for safety reasons we do not accept children under the age of 10 years old. The Hide is located at the side of our croft, towards the end of a 1.5 mile singletrack road, just a short walk from the rocky shores of peaceful Loch Eishort. The Hide’s windows and outside deck look east across the neighbouring hills towards the mainland’s 974m-high Ben Sgritheall, and the cabin’s living room window looks west across a rugged field (full of playful lambs in spring), towards the magnificent Cuillin hills —offering dramatic sunsets. Rural on the outside, but comfortably furnished within, the 35 sq M cabin offers 1 double and 1 single bedroom (maximum occupancy 3), a bathroom with shower, washbasin and WC, and a well-equipped kitchen with full size oven, microwave, dishwasher and 4-ring cooker. Please note the wifi is usually reliable but during and after storms it maybe be disrupted for a day or possibly longer. The living room has a 3-seat sofa and stool, a log-burner and Freesat TV. There is one double bedroom and one single bedroom. Bed linen and towels are provided. Heating, if you need it, is by electric panel radiators in the bedrooms (using 100% green electricity) and a cosy new log-burner in the living room (for which firewood is supplied). There is a pull-out dining table should you want to use it. The outside deck seats 3 and is the perfect place to relax, and watch the swallows swoop past, buzzards glide overhead, listen to the snipe calling or watch for a white tailed eagle. The Hide's ridgetop location means that the breeze usually does a good job at keeping the midges away. There is off-street parking immediately outside for one vehicle. Broadford village's main shops, fuel and services are a 15 minute drive away, the Kinloch hotel bar is a 5 minute drive, and the historic, seafront Eilean Iarmain pub and state of the art community-run An Crubh café are just a 10 minute drive. A cycle path from the end of our singletrack road means that you can cycle to Broadford without riding on the main road, for all but the last mile. We moved to Skye in 2023 to undertake a nature-focussed project involving regenerating native woodland and the protection of local biodiversity. It’s a long term project. We have documented over 35 species of birds on/over/next to the croft so far, including white tailed eagles, along with red deer and pine martens. We regularly see seals and occasionally otters in the nearby loch. Our house is approximately 70 metres away, so we are usually on-hand (or in the polytunnel) should you need any help or information on the area! The cabin’s access over uneven ground and 3 entrance steps means that it cannot be considered suitable for those with physical mobility impairments, but please contact us to discuss your needs should you feel it may work for you. We are sorry but because of the wildlife focus of the croft, we do not accept pets. Guest access At the Hide you have exclusive use of the cabin, its deck and the immediate grounds around the cabin. Private off-street parking is within 5 metres of the cabin entrance. Other things to note We believe this is the most peaceful place we have ever lived, but please bear in mind that the Hide is on the side of a working croft. This means that at some times on some days, there may be some noise on the croft as we go about our work.
