Our cottage in a quick 5-10 minute walk from family-friendly parks, and to a small town "downtown." The cottage is on a nice tree-lined street and is nicely suburban quiet (it's not rural, but it's not urban either). Downtown Burlingame has lots of good restaurants, independently-owned shops and national chains, and is very walkable. Downtown San Mateo has a huge park (Central Park), and even more restaurants (specializing in Japanese options, a lot of other Asian options from noodles to hot pot and everything in between and 20+ Asian dessert places as well!). It's a nice quiet neighborhood of San Mateo, just 10 minute walk to downtown Burlingame, easy parking on the street, 30 minutes to San Francisco, 20 minutes to Palo Alto, 40 minutes to San Jose, 40 minutes to Oakland. San Francisco and San Jose and Palo Alto are all reachable by car or train (Burlingame station is a 10 minute walk from the house). BART is available in Millbrae, a 10 minute drive.
