Our 2-story, 2bedroom, 2.5 bath Balinese style home is the perfect place for 2 couples or a family of 4 to enjoy. The upstairs bedroom has a queen size bed and a single bed. The downstairs bedroom has 2 single beds which can be converted to a king size bed. Situated on a ridge, there are breath-taking views out the front and rear 2nd floor windows. ***Note Well: The view out the front is along a public street. It has become a sort of "Mulholland Drive" for lovers on weekends. Their friendly laughter, exuberance and music can get out of hand late at night, causing older guests to have trouble sleeping. To offset the noise nuisance, we offer reduced rates for Friday and Saturday of only $45 per night! Thursday nights also occasionally get boisterous so the Thursday rate is $95 per night.***** Whether you are interested in simply sitting by the lap pool with a good book while sipping on your Pina Colada, or in using the home as a base camp while exploring nearby rain/cloud forests, volcanoes or any of the world class beaches, this is the place to stay. Atenas is well-known for having the best climate in the world (Nat'l Geographic). While Atenas proper can get a bit warm, at Casa Colibri's altitude, you'll find both humidity and mosquitoes in short supply. The undisrupted balance of nature allows natural predators (gekkos, iguanas, opossums, etc) to dispatch most of the few pests that live at this altitude [2,800'], including most mosquitoes. The owners live year round in another home in the neighborhood (Pica Flora). Costa Rica has the lowest crime rate in Central America (about the same capital crime rate as Boston). Atenas has one of the lowest crime rates in Costa Rica and Pica Flora has the lowest crime rate in Atenas. Still, there is an automatic security gate and friendly, engaged neighbors for added safety. Taxis are plentiful, safe and cheap ($3.00+ from downtown). Buses from town center are inexpensive and are a great way to share your travels with friendly Ticos (Costa Ricans).
