Hatlan House at Hancock Heights
Steps away from the historic Ohio State Reformatory, the Hatlan House has been fully renovated and styled with nods to Shawshank Redemption and the Ohio State Reformatory. The bedrooms in this unit are themed as Warden Norton's Office and Andy's cell. The space Hatlan House is part of a subdivision that was known as "Hancock Heights". Robert G. Hancock and his business partner William Dow, were responsible for the majority of the construction on the Ohio State Reformatory, and some of the brick row houses were owned by members of the Hancock family. During the 1940's this house would have been utilized by married Reformatory guards and their families. Deeply discounted tours of the historic Ohio State Reformatory are included in your stay. After you have booked your overnight stay, you will be emailed a promotional code for $25 off 4 tickets. The promo code will be valid for 4 tickets and will be valid only for the duration of your stay. You may use the code as a discount on any of our daytime historical tours, including the self-guided tour, Hollywood Meets History, Beyond the Bars, Old Sparky, ASL Tour, and the Shawshank Bus Tour. When you're done living your Shawshank experience, consider visiting some of the other interesting activities Richland County has to offer including Kingwood Center Gardens, the Ohio Bird Sanctuary, Richland Carrousel Park, or Malabar Farm. Take a ride along the Shawshank Trail to visit all the Richland County filming locations from Shawshank Redemption. If you're not a fan of Shawshank Redemption and are just looking to stay in a comfortable, beautifully renovated home with hosts who care, that's fine too. We welcome you! We offer a fully functional kitchen with fridge, dishwasher, oven, dishes, pots, pans, and cooking/serving utensils. Enjoy your morning wake-up with our included drip coffee machine and one complimentary sample bag of our custom roasted "Big House Brews" coffee. Additional coffee is available for sale in the Museum Store and Scofield Cafe at the Reformatory. Our newly renovated, modern bathroom includes all of the basic amenities you may need including towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a hair dryer. There is an in-unit washer and dryer available for guests to use at their leisure with an ironing board available in the laundry closet. The home is not wheelchair or handicap accessible. A couple steps are required to enter the house and, as was the way with many homes built during this time, the stairs to the 2nd floor are on the steep and narrow side. We do have handrails on the stairs for your safety. Two upstairs bedrooms (both with a queen bed and linens), and a pull-out sofa in the living room with a full bed, means the house can accommodate up to 6 guests. 4 guests are included in the standard overnight rate and we allow a maximum of up to 6 with an additional per-guest fee. Please keep in mind there is only one full bathroom, so whether or not you want to share a single bathroom with that many folks is a decision that only you can make. Our living room features comfortable seating and an entertainment center with TV and Bluray player, along with copies of all the blockbuster movies that feature the Ohio State Reformatory. The SmartTV allows you to access your own streaming services, just be sure to log out of them before you depart! Complimentary wifi is available to all of our guests and the log-in information will be available both in the house as well as your online guest portal. Wifi is not guaranteed and we are not responsible for any provider outages that may occur during your stay. There is off-street parking available for 2 cars on a gravel pad directly in front of the home. Due to space limitations and on-street parking not being allowed in the area, this unit cannot accommodate more than 2 vehicles. Please plan your drive in accordingly.
