Come to us at "Hospedaje Mariaku" just by the foot of Mount Imbabura - immersed in the marvelous Otavalan community of Peguche's waterfall (Cascada de Peguche)! Get a unique insight into the life of an indigenous family while spending your holydays in Ecuador. This is a family house where we have private rooms for your comfort, and love to share our culture with our guests as they share their own with us. The space Our home is located in the valley between two beautiful mountains - the Cotacatchi and the Imbabura - with a wonderful view of Otavalo. Next door is the famous Peguche waterfall, a magical place surrounded by woods considered sacred for our culture. On our roof terrace you can sleep, meditate, watch the sunrise and sunset behind the mountains and feel free to enjoy yourself. In our house we propose you: 4 separate bedrooms (one of them has a private bathroom with shower), 1 shared guest bathroom with shower, a barbecue spot, some musical instruments, Internet WiFi, and a fully equipped kitchen. Our family is Kichwa and here you can learn a lot about the indigenous culture. If you want to have a unique insight into the life of an indigenous family, just looking for relaxation, some wonderful places around Otavalo -that are not in the guide books-, then we look forward to your visit in our house! The house is located in the community of the famous Peguche Waterfall, a magical place surrounded by a forest that is sacred to our culture. On our terrace you can meditate, admire the sunrise and sunset, and you will have an exclusive view of the city of Otavalo and the Andean mountains. In our house we offer: 4 separate rooms (one of them has a private bathroom with a hot shower), 1 guest bathroom with a hot shower, a fire pit (tulpa in Kichua), WiFi internet, and a fully equipped kitchen that you can use. Our family is Kichwa and here you can learn a lot about indigenous culture. If you are looking for relaxation, beautiful walks, wonderful places around Otavalo or just to get an idea of how to live in a native family, we look forward to your visit in our family home. Guest access This is a family house with dedicated guest spaces, so you'll get to share common spaces with Mama María, the hostess, and maybe some of her sons and daughters. As the house is large and the guests rooms are separated, you'll have total independence if that's what you want. Of course, you can use your private room, the guests bathroom, the garden, the kitchen and our traditional fireplace (tulpa). During your stay If you like, we can give you many insider information which you won’t find in the guides. We can offer you wonderful day trips, visits to magical places, natural medicine and shamanism, stories of our culture and if you like, you can also get informal Kichwa-lessons. Other things to note Insights: 1. Every saturday a large market takes place at the "Plaza de Ponchos", with marvelous craft pieces made by local Kichwas. 2. During the year, Kichwa indigenous community celebrates different traditional festivities or ceremonies. We recomend you to seize those periods to come and stay with us: - February : Carnaval / Pawkar Raymi (Lots of sports competitions, and nice traditional music festivals, Pawkar Peguche) - June : San Juan / Inti Raymi (the biggest and most important moment of Kichwa calendary. This is the celebration of the sun and the harvests, lots of traditional ceremonies, ritual bath at Pegueche's Waterfall, dancing and music in the streets for an entire week). - September : Yamor (Mestizo and indigenous celebration. You can see dance and music in the streets and the election of the "ñusta", the city princess of the year).
