This is a layer of asphalt tar freshly laid down, then gravel pressed into the tar to hold it in place. It gives better traction in rain and snow, but is a longer lasting and more solid surface than just compacted gravel. The drive to the house is as beautiful as the destination. All roads are paved until the final 1/10th of a mile, where a smooth gravel path leads you gently to the summit. You won’t need 4WD—any vehicle will do during Spring, Summer, or Fall. I do recommend a 4WD in late winter months were we get snow at this elevation. Please understand, to stay in a home on top of the mountain, you have to drive up a mountain road to reach the summit, haha. The road has some decent inclines and one sharp turn, but this section is paved. The gravel section features a gentle incline. The road is a single lane with multiple pull-offs. Since there are only a few homes on the mountain, meeting other vehicles is rare. We have recently posted some photos from the view of my Toyota Tacoma while driving the road. Despite the privacy, you’re close to Asheville, Black Mountain, and Lake Lure, as well as some of the best hiking trails in Western North Carolina. Whether you're exploring the towns or hitting the trails, adventure is just a short drive away. Access details: -Paved roads until final 1/10th mile (gravel but gentle incline) -Accessible by 2WD vehicles -Single-lane road with occasional pull-offs -Close to Asheville, Black Mountain, and Lake Lure (road repairs pending) Nearby hiking trails & outdoor recreation 🧺 Washer Dryer & Trash Access For guests staying four nights or more, we offer access to the washer and dryer, located inside the garage. You'll receive a garage keypad code prior to arrival, making it easy to pop in and take care of laundry during your stay. Large outdoor trash cans are in the garage if needed. Please leave the trash cans in the garage so bears do not get to them. My cleaners will remove the trash after your stay. We provide complimentary laundry pods for your convenience, so you can pack light and refresh clothes as needed. Laundry access details: -Washer & dryer available for guests staying 4+ nights -Garage keypad code provided before check-in -Complimentary laundry pods included -Washer & dryer are located inside the garage (garage otherwise reserved for owner storage) ⚡️ Extras & Comforts No matter what the weather brings, the full-house generator ensures the lights stay on and the home stays cozy. The Sonos sound system, central heat and air, and WiFi keep you connected and comfortable throughout your stay. Extras & comfort amenities: -Full-house generator (automatically powers home during outages) -Sonos sound system throughout -Central heating & air conditioning -WiFi + ethernet connections -Ceiling fans & portable fans in bedrooms -Local manager 11 minutes away for assistance Ready to trade your busy life for a peaceful mountain escape? Other things to note House Rules: Please Read Before Booking By booking this property, you confirm that you have read the full listing description, viewed all photos, and understand the house rules. We've taken care to be transparent and clear about every important detail — whether it's about shared spaces, layout, potential for noise, or unique aspects of the property — so that you know exactly what to expect before your stay. We're always here to help. If something comes up, please reach out. We truly care about our guests and understand that emergencies and unexpected situations happen. We will always do our best to find a solution that's fair and compassionate. That said, guests also need to understand that trip insurance and our cancellation policy exist to help protect both sides. We are a small family business, not a large hotel chain. If we don't get paid for a stay, we still have to cover the mortgage and expenses — protecting both sides is why we have a cancellation policy and why we strongly recommend trip insurance. No refunds will be given for things that were clearly disclosed in the listing. If you choose to book without reading the full description, that does not qualify as a reason for a refund or cancellation. Trip Insurance We strongly recommend purchasing trip insurance to protect your stay against unexpected events — illness, injury, severe weather, travel delays, and more. Unlike Airbnb and VRBO, you don't have to decide at checkout. You can add coverage any time after booking up until 24 hours before check-in through your Guest Portal link, which will be included in your reservation confirmation message as soon as you book. Coverage is provided by RentalGuardian and you will see full policy details before purchasing. Guests manage their own claims directly — no need to go through us. We do not issue refunds for cancellations due to weather, illness, family emergencies, or other unforeseen circumstances outside our cancellation policy. Trip insurance exists specifically to protect you in these situations. We'd much rather you have coverage and not need it than need it and not have it. Weather & Unforeseen Circumstances We do not issue refunds for bad weather, power outages, natural disasters, or road closures. These are outside of our control, and we strongly recommend purchasing trip insurance before your stay for exactly this reason. If you do need to cancel due to weather or something unexpected, just let us know. We're happy to relist the dates, and if we're able to rebook them at an equal or higher rate, we will gladly refund you in full for those nights. We're not here to be rigid — we just ask for fairness and understanding in return. If you have any questions or concerns, reach out before booking. We'd love to help ensure this is the right property for your needs. Thanks for booking direct and supporting a small, local family business — we genuinely appreciate every guest.
