Description
Cosy, well-heated retreat in the heart of Hérault, perfectly located for hiking and cycling lovers. Enjoy panoramic views over vineyards and the Thongue River from a private balcony. Open-plan living with kitchenette, calm modern interior, powerful shower, and secure storage for bikes or kayaks. Step straight into hills, garrigue, and scenic routes. A peaceful base for active escapes, nature, and slow evenings in southern France. The space A cosy, well-heated hideaway with far-reaching views, designed for people who’d rather be on a trail than on a screen. Set beneath the medieval grandeur of Gabian, beside the beautiful River Thongue, this small but carefully finished house feels like a modern fairytale with Super Fast Fibre Internet dropped into an ancient landscape. Step outside and you’re straight into the hills and garrigue—open, wild terrain with genuinely mind-blowing views and a network of routes perfect for hiking and cycling. The property sits over two levels, both opening onto river and vineyard scenery. At 38 m² it’s compact, but deliberately so—warm, calm, and quietly luxurious rather than cluttered. After a long ride or hike, the powerful shower and excellent heating make coming home something to look forward to, whatever the season. This is a place for lovers of the outdoors and lovers of each other. There’s no TV and no digital noise—just space to slow down, recover, and reconnect. Evenings suit good conversation, rest, and music: bring your own vinyl and use the record player to set the tone. Cyclists will appreciate the quiet roads, varied climbs, and scenic loops. Walkers can head straight into nature from the door, with routes ranging from gentle riverside walks to longer hill hikes through classic southern French landscape. Dogs are welcome. There are plenty of walks and trails to share together, and the local bar is dog-friendly too—so you don’t have to choose between your pet and a relaxed dinner or drink. This isn’t a base for ticking tourist boxes. It’s for people who want views, movement, warmth, and silence when it matters—and a real sense of place when they stop moving. Guest access Access for the house is via a lock box provided next to the front door. I will provide the code prior to your stay along with a video with directions to the house. All of the house and the Basement storage area are for guests to enjoy; however, the loft area is not available to guests and is closed off. It only contains insulation to keep the house warm in the winter months. Other things to note There is a Cave with a washing machine and lots of storage space for bikes, kayaks and paddle boards etc. Safe and secure area with separate key. All pets are welcome. Dogs, cats, Parrots, Micro hedgehogs etc etc. Parking is best on Rue De L'Eglise near the Church of St Julien (1 minute from the house) in Gabian. Parking near the house can be difficult due to lack of spaces but you might be lucky. It is good to unload near the house, and then find a space later on. Worst case scenario, there is a car park at La Tavernat restaurant which is always available for free. It is then a 4 or 5 minute walk back to the house. Be aware, the house is not good for disabled or elderly people because there is always a walk to the house and there are two flights of stairs. The stairs are not perfect and require some care.
