Six of Norway's 24 preserved stave churches are located in Valdres. Two of them are Reinli Stave Church and Hedalen Stave Church, which was built in the Viking Age almost 1,000 years ago! The Valdres Folkemuseum is one of Norway's largest open-air museums. The museum is located in Fagernes, the largest town in Valdres, with a good selection of stores and restaurants. In winter, the area offers a breathtaking snowy landscape for skiing.
