Val Richard - A Family History Late 19th and first half of the 20th century, the village of Val Richard was a hamlet inhabited by artisans and peasants. But one after each other, the 6 fires of the Val Richard had turned off for economic reasons, more work for artisans whose traditional trades fell from year to year: miller, weaver, thatched rooters, long saw, linen... In 1960, the completely deserted and ruined hamlet had become a thick filled with brambles, broom and gorse. Our uncle, Abbé Auguste Coudray and high school students arrived at this place of desolation and started to revive it. They dreamed of making it “a space for hospitality and freedom: a place where relationships can be renewed, and a common language can be coined beyond differences.” Over the years, the village has become a meeting place, a welcoming place, an initiation center to botany, geology, beekeeping, music, a spiritual healing place for many, a university in the middle of the fields during the summer. The hamlet, gradually restored, has seen thousands of guests pass through. Expected or unexpected, in winter and summer, not a single day when someone went up until November 2000. In 2005, after two years of standard-setting and rehabilitation work, we opened the village again. Desiring to make the village accessible to as many people as possible, we have undertaken work to make accessible one of our homes to people with reduced mobility (label “Tourism & Disability). We pride ourselves on welcoming various audiences for 19 years who are looking for exceptional moments: travelers, lovers, creators of internships, associations, companies... In 2023, our son Julien joins the family adventure! Guest access By privatizing the Village du Val Richard (there will be no other guests), you will have access to all the houses (except the non-renovated houses). Totally cut off from the world you can organize your stay as you wish!
