The area is surrounded by water (Lake Independence & Lake Superior) creating masterful views with energetic wildlife in a natural environment. There is numerous hiking, biking, swimming, snowshoeing, snowmobile trails to explore no matter the season. Our cabin is located on the shores of Lake Independence which brings ecological changes and weather shifts throughout the year which might be experienced by guest. Below is a outline; 1.) April-May= Spring Thaw, yearly snow fall average in the area is more that 200 plus inches. It is a beautiful time with the birds singing and the trees budding but the ground is wet a muddy in certain locations. Great fishing starting May 15th. 2.) June= Every year around this time Mayflies hatch and can be seen around the lake and near the cabin. These flies provide an essential function to the ecosystem keeping the natural habitat thriving and healthy. 3.) July-August= Beautiful time of the year. Warm temperatures, mild swimming temperatures, great fishing, and a few flies on a warm day when the wind is from the south. The Big Bay area is thriving with outdoor enthusiast enjoying the beautiful landscape and environment. 4.) September-October= Fall season change is on the horizon. Around the cabin there is a lot of Oak trees. The oak trees start to drop acorns and leaves at this time. We leave an electric leave blower for guest at the cabin to easily blow off the deck for guest staying multiple days. 5.) October-November= Winter is getting close and upon us. It is not abnormal to have snow fall in this month range. Typically, the snow will be wet and heavy this time of the year making it hard for driving in and out of the driveway. It is recommended to have a four wheel or all-wheel drive car while visiting the area at this time. The Big Bay area is so special! It is a great place to connect with nature and reset. Hope everyone has a rejuvenating and blissful stay! Other things to note Access to the Lake is a gradual decent with a 3’ high bluff at beach/water edge. This access is not ADA.
