The lake, in the center of the volcanic crater, is widely known as being the unofficial 8th world wonder. We encourage you to search Lago de Coatepeque, and read more about the lake and the surrounding area. We recommend you start each day with a good mug of coffee (or tea- but the coffee is pretty good here!) Take it outside under the shade of the patio and watch the morning light pour over the lush volcanic landscape. It changes so quickly, each time you sip your coffee you will look up and find a whole new sky. Wander in the masterful gardens filled with orchids, bougainvillea, gardenia, and always fresh fruit. The pool is great for dips in the morning, with a nice lunch or evening drinks- and of course, always naps. Lay on the roof deck for a birds eye view or enjoy company in the gazebo. The house was brilliantly designed by the French-Salvadoran Janine Janowski, a renowned arts icon in the country and the architect Javier Sagarra. After building it she famously said that the view was so beautiful, it distracted her from getting any work done. The architecture embodies the four classical elements of nature –earth, water, fire and air. It features two distinct spaces that offer the perfect balance of contemplation and connection-- the outward beauty of the landscape and the internal recognition and reflection of it. We are sure it is the most magnificent place in the country-- arguably the world : ) Lastly, we hope that by staying here you will want to know a bit more about Janine Janowski, her legacy and the arts in El Salvador. Her daughter, artist Muriel Hasbun, created laberinto projects to help people do just that. laberinto projects is a collaborative, arts and lens-based, education and cultural legacy preservation platform. Please look for laberinto projects (add a www and a com to it) to learn more. Guest access Guests have access to the rooftop lounge area, the garden gazebo, the interior sculpture garden, the pool, as well as the esfera (a round room-- photograph noted in photo section)-- which functions more like an experiential art installation that plays with light, sound, gravity and the celestial. Also, the beautiful gardens and to the pool overlook the magnificent Coatepeque Lake and Santa Ana volcano.
