Description
The source of life oasis was created by Madani, a young Sahraoui and Marie, a young French woman. Their goal? Reverd the desert that has won land following the construction of a dam that has deprived the village of M’Hamid in the Sahara with water. Madani is therefore experimenting with several permaculture techniques: drawing and desalinating the water, building with local materials, planting trees (800 in a few years), cereals, vegetables...(continued below) The space “Making the desert green again is a solution for the village and for the whole world,” he explains in the newspaper L’Âge de Faire. If we save this oasis, we will know how to live with salt water and find solutions for the future where the water will be missing.” After 10 years, work pays off at the hostel farm. The trees grew, bringing shade and freshness. A donkey, a camel, chickens, and pigeons are a small farm. The rammed houses have hatched on these 2 hectares and welcome guests who want to experience their holidays in a different way. This way, you can experience life according to Sahrawi customs, taking part in local activities if you wish: baking bread in the sand, making rope, workshops on traditional cooking or henna, harvesting dates, and more. But you will also have the option of relaxing on the large terrace overlooking the vast desert, watching the sunset while enjoying a cup of tea, or cooling off in the saltwater pool. In the evening, we often dance under the stars around the fire, thanks to local and visiting musicians.
