Connect with nature in the pristine, untouched setting of the Pakihi Valley. This cabin is located on a private elevated site with rural views and the stunning Otara River below. 30 minutes to Opotiki. Set on 47 acres of native bush and backing onto DOC land, mainly of steep incline. The cabin is tidy, comfortable, clean and affords modern comforts and conveniences while guests experience nature at its best. The space The unit sits proudly, overlooking the stunning fresh water river below and giving a 360 degree view of the stunning natural forest surrounding it. Full afternoon sun. For larger groups, the lower platform is suitable for tents, caravans and campervans/motor homes with 2x power/water station connections. An extra charge of $10 per person applies (please advise upon booking if you require the use of these connections) - Eastern Bay of Plenty Motu Trails are accessed from Opotiki (20 min drive), with the Pakihi track only 2 minutes away. Suitable for hiking and mountain biking (check website for track/weather conditions) - The extensive Eastern coastline provides plenty of fishing, swimming and boating opportunities. Waiotahe Beach is a popular location for swimming and surfing - located 38 minutes away. - Hukutaia Domain provides a native bush experience - with multiple tracks and walking/biking options - located 30 minutes away. - A private and unique base to explore the East Coast. Guest access There are two accommodations on this property, with the lower bach currently under renovation (not done while guests are staying at upper bach). Guests will have unreserved access to the upper bach and surrounding land. Other things to note Accommodation is a studio unit, containing Kitchenette, full bathroom (including bath), washing machine and living area. Mattresses (1x queen and 2x single) are provided for guest use. A limited amount of linen/blankets are available. - Kitchenette contains sink, microwave, toaster, jug, rice cooker, slow cooker and basic cookware/utensils ect. A portable gas cooker is available - guests to supply butane gas cannisters to suit 'gas-mate cooker' - ideal for one pot/pan meals. A further supply of Butane is available in the unit (see listing pics for details). 89 litre fridge/compartment freezer. - The water to this property is from a tapped fresh water spring. Water is safe for drinking and bathing, however it can be slightly discolored at times. Guests are encouraged to bring bottled water if this is an issue - 20 litres of fresh (town) tap water is available to guests. - Approximately 12km of Pakihi Road is a narrow and winding gravel/rocky surface. 4WDs will comfortably navigate this road, however other vehicles should drive with caution. Only 4WDS can fully access the top unit - However parking space is available on lower platform for other vehicles. The main driveway to the unit is a 25 degree river rock hill, approx 20 metres..but there are shortcuts to take on foot from the lower platform. -Full Wi-fi is available, however cell-phone service reliability can vary depending on provider. Guests are encouraged to adjust cellphone settings to 'enable wi-fi calling'.
