Funku's of Casa Marisa, Chã Das Caldeiras

Your "Funku" is at the feet of the volcano Pico Do Fogo (2829) and next to the restaurant Casa Marisa. Funku's are unique traditional round-houses of Caldeiras, built with natural stone . and these are the only ones modified for guests. Inside comfy and with private bathroom, a staircase outside leading to the round and shadowed terrace overlooking the new lava-fields and the Pico. We are a family, and children (playground), couples of any kind, singles, pets and so on, are all welcome. The space OK, the room has almost no corners ;) that is something to get used to it. The architecture traditional roundhouses initially came very probably from Africa but why they are only established in the Crater of Fogo is not known for sure (some say because the slaves managed to come up here were practically free for the Portuguese left them alone - too far and hostile environment - and they built their houses like home. We adapted the houses a bit more to "feel well" style of guests. Highlight is for sure the huge terrace with its special roof. The landscape is a real eye opener and more so our sky in the night. And there will be nothing in the way of your view ... not even the roof (!), you'll see! Guest access You have your own small house during your stay but your neighbor is the small hotel Casa Marisa with a beautiful "quintal" - inner garden and a well equipped restaurant. Marisa is one of the most recommended cooks of the island. Of course as part of Casa Marisa you are free to use all facilities. Children can play around freely (there is a playground for them) and very safe. Mostly they will be joined with our children and other local boys and girls.
