We want to make sure our property aligns with your needs. Your Experience here is important to us. We STRIVE to be transparent, honest and provide the best experience possible within our means. St. Thomas is a relatively small island (just under 32 sq miles---> 4 miles wide by 13 miles long), so visiting sites like Drake’s Seat, Blackbeard’s, Yacht Haven Grande, Coki Beach, Sapphire Beach, Redhook or Market Street Downtown, Bluebeard's Castle and Magen's Beach can all easily be enjoyed in an afternoon or a day because most places are less than 20 min away or LESS from this property! We have 5 other units at this location! Everyone can have their own private unit but you can share common areas for gatherings. Similar to a Condo Complex. We highly recommend checking out our Guidebook for things to do, where to eat, excursions, places to visit, beach recommendations, our personal favorites and more! Or reach out to us directly! Just a kind reminder that the Virgin Islands is NOT a U.S. STATE. It’s not the U.S.A. We don't pay US taxes (we have our tax system, we don't get to vote in the US elections)…We have different rules and laws here, like driving on the LEFT side of the road...Let me repeat this very important statement---> “The Virgin Islands is NOT the USA.” We are a separate country with different laws, customs, a beautiful vibrant culture, traditions and ways of life. We are a tiny little island in the middle of the ocean…only >32 Square Miles in fact…very tiny. So please, we invite you to embrace that we do things differently ON THIS ISLAND. Most things are shipped here so you will notice the cost of goods are higher (much much higher) and cost of living is higher BY FAR than any US STATE. We have Power outages OFTEN, drink tap water on island with caution, Cell and WIFI is NOT 100% GUARANTEED to name a few island challenges. I mention this because we get MANY visitors and travelers that don't know this, do any research and set expectations that we are not. We don't have STARBUCKS OR WALMART OR UBER. I invite you to read the following with an open mind and heart so that you may enjoy our little island to the fullest! Please be aware that the outdoor amenities in the COMMON AREAS, including grills, pool, gym, bar, lounge areas, most hammocks, terraces, courtyard, parking lot, laundry room, beach equipment pick up area, and communal decks are shared with other guests currently staying in other units at Virgin View Villas. While you enjoy the privacy of your individual private space/apartment, these community spaces provide an opportunity to socialize and connect with fellow guests, creating a friendly and shared atmosphere within the property IF YOU CHOOSE. We invite you to mingle, relax, and make new friends while taking advantage of the stunning surroundings and amenities provided for all guests to enjoy. Please note the Villa is located on the Mountain Top and does require walking up and down the driveway, parking lot and along meandering steps to reach some of the community amenities like pool and gym. ***Please refer to the captions on our Pictures to see which areas are private and shared. TRANSPORTATION- We HIGHLY recommend renting a vehicle during your stay so you have the freedom to come and go on your own time and schedule and for the BEST experience possible. WE CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH! RENT THE CAR for BEST EXPERIENCE POSSIBLE! And it's fun! THIS IS NOT A TAXI FRIENDLY ISLAND and it's VERY EXPENSIVE. NO UBER OR LYFT! Renting a vehicle will encourage you to explore more and make the most of your time here! We love taking the car ferry to St John for the day and "beach hop" via vehicle! If you just want to post up and relax at the property and don't plan on moving much then a taxi might do! There's also the local transportation system (we call them safaris) that traverse the island from only sun up to sun down in certain loops or routes. It's limited, but an option if you want the "local" experience and are on a budget and have lots of time on your hands. Ask us for details about this if interested. There are also Side by Sides, Dirt Bike and Scooter Rentals on island. ALL BETTER than Taxis! ****This is NOT A Bicycle or walking friendly or easy island (no sidewalks and Mountainous) All the islands in the Caribbean have limited or very spotty WIFI and Cell Service access. You will need to contact your cell company carrier for more details on your specific coverage. We also offer VIYA WIFI and STARLINK (the largest and BEST provider on island currently) at this property but the company does experience down times or black outs on occasion. If you are in absolute need of WIFI as close to 100 % of the time we HIGHLY recommend you bring an alternate source/back up plan for your trip (ex. portable WIFI BOX, Phone plan, mobile box, etc) But please note nothing is 100% certain though. We are a very small island in the middle of ocean. Sometimes when the Cell or Wifi are not working...this is a nudge from the Universe to look up, take a deep breath and enjoy the view! Being that we are on a small island in the Caribbean, we do experience power outages on occasion. All the islands do. They don't usually last very long though. We do offer a Back Up Power generator at this property but please do understand that in the event of power outage we kindly ask that you are resourceful in your power usage, especially Air Conditioning when the Generator is running. Or LIMIT MULTIPLE High Wattage electronic items at the same time. (Doing so will blow a fuse!) Also please note islanders are HUGE NATURE LOVERS and we encourage volunteering/helping the local shelter/Humane Society. In hopes to help the environment & community by volunteering (activities at the shelter or national park, hosting community educational events/spreading awareness etc, we prevent animals from being put down due to lack of room and resources and bring awareness to sustain the beauty of the island. You may see wild or feral OUTDOOR cats/dogs, chickens and goats during your stay on island on the roads, at bars and restaurants and at the beach. Please note they are not allowed in ANY of the units (due to potential current & future guest allergies). If you are not an animal or nature lover, THIS PROPERTY or Island MAY NOT BE A GOOD FIT. There are lots of elements of nature in the landscape and on the mountain we reside like iguanas, birds, insects etc. If you LOVE NATURE/ANIMALS, well please let us know if you are interested in adopting a future pet/companion or want to volunteer in nature during your stay! We can get you that info. There are also other ways you can "help" or be of service to humanity by helping to transport via plane ride potential pets off island at no cost to you! The local shelter here offers the "PETS WITH WINGS" program and is always looking for future tourists/visitors to help them transport animals stateside to other shelters so they have an opportunity to get adopted. Let us know if this interests you. We can forward you more info. PROPERTY LAYOUT: We know it's pretty obvious in the Listing Description & Details, pictures, captions and floor plan. But incase you missed it, we want to be very transparent about this large mountain top property. There are 7 total rentals on this mountain top currently located in 2 different large Villas (studios & 1 bedrooms) Some of our studios are small and perfect for solo nomads or couples that like each other. We also offer larger more roomy studios and 1 bedroom units! We also have a 1 bedroom that is a Penthouse Suite and MASSIVE! Lots of options at this property! The Villa at the very top of mountain offers its own parking lot, community laundry room, top floor 1 bedroom unit and large ground floor studio (both with private decks). The Lower Villa offers Top Floor 1 bedroom "Master suite" with a vast private wrap around deck. On the ground floor- it boasts 4 private studio spaces, community Guest Bathroom, Community Courtyard with deck, pool table area, grill area, dining area, bar area and more! Just In Front of this Villa is the large assigned parking lot, smokers area, community outdoor shower and all the beach gear. Just down the mountain are 2 terraces that are reached at the far end of the parking lot, down a set of stairs. These 2 terraces offer abundant Community Areas that boast Community outdoor gym, picnic area, outdoor kitchen and grill area, hammocks, community pool and pool deck. (See pics) This property is large, spread out and terraced. You may hear other guests, animals, neighbors, ocean waves, generators, (during power outages) construction (the island is still rebuilding post hurricanes), winds, boat traffic or the occasional helicopter tour. Its a small island. Regardless of where you stay, you may hear any or all of these. If this is a potential issue, please book elsewhere. *** Please note, our sincere apologies, we are EXEMPT from allowing or accepting Guests with Service Animals in all 6 units per AirBnB Service Animal Exception Policy. Our staff members may have severe allergies to pet dander/hair and we often have guests with severe allergies to pet dander or fur that book us specifically because they know we don't allow any pets inside the units. The safety & health of our Guests is a HIGH priority. If you have questions or would like more info, please reach out to us or AirBnB directly. ***ADULTS ONLY PROPERTY- Clothing Optional WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND TRAVELERS INSURANCE-especially during Hurricane Season (June 1st-Nov 30th) In the event of a Hurricane, you will need to vacate property and leave the island for safety reasons. Not only do we shut the property down during Hurricanes or bad weather, the airports and ferry terminals do too. Some other things to note...we want to be very transparent and have fluid communication. We hope we can be a good fit for your needs, but we know these islands aren't for everyone. We kindly ask you read closely and if there's any issues with these tips/suggestions reach out and ask or possibly seek vacation or travel elsewhere that more aligns with what you are looking for. A Win-Win is VERY IMPORTANT to us! MESSAGES- Please check your text messages and your booking platform (if you used one) before, after and throughout your stay. ESPECIALLY DAY BEFORE & DAY OF TRAVEL. I often send ‘LOCAL TIP' of the day info, tide, weather or current stats, wind factors, rip current warnings, suggestions, weather updates, special events if they are happening on island etc… to all our guests if it pertains. FLUID communication is VERY important to us. We give our Guests the utmost attention especially in the event of emergencies, questions etc...We expect the same in return. GUESTBOOK- Located in your unit (BRIEF INTRO) - Please check out the guestbook full of info, tips and fun suggestions on things to do under our profile on AirBnB platform! Also, YouTube is full of info on up to date things to do here! Also included in the Guestbook are manuals on appliances, Check Out info and more. AIR CONDITIONING- We please ask that you TURN OFF your AC when leaving property or not in your unit. We hope to continue to offer lower rates by keeping the power cost down. (By far our biggest expense) We pay the highest in the US for all utilities, especially POWER….For perspective it’s over $2/hour to run just the AC...that is not include any other appliances. It just got raised again to 60cents kWh. Power outages on these islands- We do get power outages on occasion throughout the islands....all of them in the Caribbean, please carry some cash when exploring and away from the property in the event there is an outage. Most businesses don't have BACKUP POWER so they won't be able to run credit cards if there is power outage and if there isn't power. We DO offer backup power here at the property, so power outages won’t affect us. There will be a few minutes of lag time for the Generators to power up though. BUT in the event we are using backup Generator power, we ask that you DON’T use several high wattage items AT THE SAME TIME. **For example Blow Dryer, Toaster and Microwave at the same time or AC, Microwave and Toaster at the same time.....You get the idea. Using multiple high powered appliances at the same time will blow a fuse or breaker. It will blow a fuse in the generators and we won’t have power for anyone here. PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF POWER USAGE- We want to continue to offer lowest rates possible in the future too. We can only do this with your help with water and power consumption not being overly excessive. ISLAND VIBE- The US Virgin Islands has a UNIQUE VIBE. It’s hard to pin point or share in a few words. These Islands have a rich history of multiple cultures, of struggle and survivorship. A strong community that is resilient and family driven. The VI community is made up of islanders that come from multiple generational hard working folk, from farmers, fisherman, artisans and families that work with their hands, the earth and have survived storm after storm with limited resources and help. It’s hard to describe because it is unique and special. A simple kind of life exists here, “island time”. Slower, more present and surrounded by Ocean front beauty, flora and fauna! A slower paced island, very chill and relaxed. It’s hard to describe. But I can tell what it is not. It is a not a “Party Island” If you seek clubbing, bottle service, nightlife and loud energy....this is not that place, seek a visit to someplace that offers that like Vegas, Cancun or Punta Cana, even New York. Most restaurants stop serving food around 9pm, maybe 10pm... This is a great island to come relax, chill, slow down, enjoy the moment and get to bed early…after dinner, stoll on the beach at sunset and maybe a night cap. PROPERTY VIBE- We try to provide a comfortable vibe that feels familiar, safe, clean and cozy. We are located on a mountain top, in a neighborhood called Tabor & Harmony...at the end of a quiet residential road. THIS IS NOT a resort, hotel or high end luxury billionaire mansion...but it is a large scenic property with two beautiful Villas that offer 6 apartment style vacation rentals with many amenities (like hot water, back up power system, A/C, honor bar, entertainment area, pool table, ceiling fans, paved driveway and parking lot etc.), we still want our visitors to get a taste of “simple, relaxed, being present” during their stay. We do try to offer the comforts of home, but also offer flavors of nature, flora and fauna at this location. With hints of organic touches, weathered and upcycled eco friendly , beachy decor; We hope we can create an “edge” where you may try some new things that are outside your comfort zone (like reading a book in a hammock outside, coffee outside on the deck or, walking in nature) and still feel the comforts of home & the feeling of “vacation”. SUPPLIES- Your unit is equipped with basic needs to have an exceptional stay like soaps, towels, beach towels, trash bags, toilet paper, dish soap, cleaning supplies, paper towels, spices, etc. to get you started. We LOVE offering you this "starter pack" so you don't have to waste time hunting, shopping or finding these essential things during your stay. If you use up supplies in excess we kindly ask you shop for those items to meet your needs. We DO NOT supply food products, specialty items, coffee, creamers, makeups, perfumes, etc. We respect and understand that everyone has different microbiomes, skin sensitivities, tastes, allergies, preferences etc. and we want to honor that by allowing you to bring, buy or provide your own favorite or unique items that fit your life. If you need something unique, specific brand or special reach out; We will happily guide you to a place/store that might sell those items. TRASH- There are trash bags/liners under your sink or in the bottom of your trash can. When your trash fills up please take your trash out to the BIG trash cans outside scattered throughout the property. (courtyard, by the Grill or outside in the parking lot) We empty those every day so you don't have to haul your trash to the designated dump site on the island during your stay. We Love offering this service so you can enjoy your valuable time on the island, but be mindful to tie up those bags so critters don't find their way in please. If you throw food items in the trash, please make sure to throw trash out often into those big cans. Food will draw the critters into your unit. STAINS/SPOILS- We hate even mentioning this BUT- here we are...By booking us you agree to NOT "SPOIL" or STAIN or SPILL on the linens, bed/mattress or any furniture in or on property. And if you do, you AGREE to notify us immediately and are fully & financially responsible for the $500+ professional steam clean fee to clean/sanitized OR REPLACE items if they can not be cleaned/sanitized. We know accidents happen and some travelers have health issues (no problem, we can assist!), if this is the case for you, let us know and we will be happy to refer you to a nearby place to buy supplies or Diapers on island to prevent accidents. Allow us to DEFINE "SPOIL": Peeing or Pooping or any other Body Fluid or Fluid on a surface it is not intended for. Or spilling any liquid, gels, or solids on surfaces that can not be easily wiped, cleaned or removed. RAIN & WIND- When leaving your unit please keep windows and doors closed. This is a "DRYER" and desert island but in the event we get wind and rain that pass through unexpectedly on this mountain top, it often comes unannounced! Sometimes the wind and rain can find their way in if you leave windows open while not on property. Keep your things dry and let's not let the units flood or get drenched by closing windows and doors while you go out and play 🙂 Also note that if you leave your things to dry outside that sometimes the wind can carry them off. Let us know if you need clothesline clips or rocks to help secure your items. We would be happy to provide them! SAND- Please rinse SAND off YOU & your Tings’ at the Outdoor Shower in Driveway (in the turfed area). DO NOT RINSE SAND OFF in your Shower in your unit, PLEASE! Sand clogs the drains VERY EASILY, is VERY DIFFICULT to get out and backs up OUR ENTIRE PLUMBING SYSTEM for the entire property. If this happens during your stay in your unit we will charge you accordingly to fix, unclog, fix this issue. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Rinse Sand off outside in the designated area. CONTACT US- We generally are up and operating "Sun up till sun down" mentality. Our management is here for you! Feel free to call, text, WIFI msg us with any questions, concerns or needs. That being said we honor and respect YOUR private time as we hope you also do ours. We do set our phones down in the shower, during meals, meditations, gratitude and reflection times....but we check our messages often throughout the day! If you don't hear from us within a few hours cell or WIFI service may be spotty and we may have not received the message. If its an emergency please call 911, don't wait for us! If it's in the middle of night or morning, and its an emergency we understand and will do our best to respond...within reason. BUT PLEASE don't call us at 3 am to ask us where to buy cigarettes or where to go clubbing....please wait till morning. 1. This very much speaks "asshole" to us and we will remind you of our only rule here DONT BE AN ASSHOLE. 2. If you are offended by this please seek housing elsewhere...In fact...maybe go to a different island or country? We hope you get the point, know that you are a priority and we are here for you...within reason..... FUN BEACH THINGS & TOYS- We LOVE offering Coolers, Beach Chairs, Beach Umbrellas, Floaties, Snorkel Masks/Fins for our guests to enjoy during their stay so they don't have to bring, pack or spend their precious time shopping or purchase these tings. You will find these beach items in driveway in Main Villa on the turf grass common area by Courtyard. PLEASE return the gear washed and cleaned after each use/day so other guests can enjoy. (there is an outdoor shower in driveway & several hose spigots) We kindly ask that you please take care of our gear so others can enjoy too. If you break, lose or leave behind any gear at beach, you will be charged accordingly (starting at $75/item and up) OR you will need to replace during your stay. (NOTE- Items on island ARE VERY EXPENSIVE COSTLY to purchase/replace. )Also hunting items down often takes a whole day out of your vacation time…..that being said, just please take care of things borrowed like it’s yours. Rinse the salt and sand off these fun things after EACH use. We love sharing TINGS, especially if it adds to your island adventures, experience and enjoyment! SEPTIC- The Septic system is VERY SENSITIVE here in the Caribbean and Islands. Very similar to American rural areas or living in the country. We kindly ask YOU DO NOT FLUSH TOILET PAPER down the Toilet, but instead THROW IN THE TRASH CAN. We take trash out DAILY HERE. The only thing Septic friendly is Body Fluids & Solids here in the Virgin Islands. Septic in the islands is sensitive and can clog easily. If you flush anything besides Body Fluids, you may be charged a VERY HIGH PLUMBING BILL. ($2k or more to start!) In order to AVOID any awkward conversations, situations or backing up septic, we ask YOU ONLY FLUSH BODY FLUIDS please. NOTHING ELSE. We also practice “if it’s Yellow let it mellow, if it’s Brown flush it down” in order to conserve water and be more ECO-FRIENDLY here in the Islands. We know it’s not for everyone, but we KINDLY ASK you to try and participate in this EARTH FRIENDLY gesture and practice in conservation. Again, PLEASE DONT FLUSH anything but body fluids. HONOR DONATION BAR- We offer an "Honor Bar" of adult Bevs in the Courtyard with an counter top ice maker. This is a POUR YOUR OWN DRINK DONATION based drink bar. We KINDLY ASK you donate $5+ PER drink to help us cover the costs to continue to offer this service and amenity, to replenish the bar with spirits, mixers, cups and maintain the ice. Please make a donation so other guests can enjoy in the future. You can app pay us or drop cash in the “USVI” Wall Mount Tip jars. There are 4 to choose from. Any left over proceeds are donated to the local St Thomas Animal Humane Society in TuTu. We LOVE helping the local shelter out! CRITTERS- We have lots of critters in the tropics. You will 1000% see a critter, bug or lizard during your time in the Tropics. They come in all shapes and sizes and some you can not even see :) If this is an issue you may want to vacation elsewhere. I assure you that a critter will cross your path during your stay. We DO NOT spray chemicals to deter or kill bugs in the units or around the property. We value and respect them. We quite enjoy sharing this planet and property with them as they serve an important part in the natural rhythms and cycles of life. If you want to learn more about the local critters, reach out to me and we can organize a nature walk. We do understand most folks don't like them, don't want to see them and try to kill them, at all costs...like spraying chemicals (which is harmful to them and YOU) We get it! We do our best to keep out of the units, ethically and safely (again we don't use chemicals) We do however what you to have a comfortable stay so there are some tips on how to avoid them. 1. Bring your own bug spray if you must. We love the all natural ones like citronella, lemon grass or tea tree oils. Please be mindful when spraying. Spray away from others and furniture. DEET is very toxic if sprayed on your skin, try to spray only on your clothes. 2. Avoid going in nature at sunset and sunrise, dusk or dawn as that is when most are active 3. Do not let food or water sit out in opened containers. In fact if you open a container we ask that u tightly seal it or store in your fridge. 4. Do Not wear dark colors as it seems to attract bugs, especially mosquitos 5. Do not let water sit on the counters or sink area as critters need water too and are attracted to water. 6. Avoid the beach at sunset and sunrise for an hour. Or wear long pants or long skirt during those times. 7. During Rain, close doors and windows so critters don’t come in seeking shelter. We assure you they don’t like getting drenched in the rain either. 8. Keep all open food containers in fridge or in AIR TIGHT CONTAINERS 9. Set your shoes outside the door, sometimes body odor attracts critters inside 10. If you spill or drop any food products, clean up right away AGAIN, you will 1000% see a critter, bug or lizard during your time on St Thomas no matter where you stay. This is the TROPICS. If this is an issue maybe book your trip elsewhere? Like a Vegas Hotel? Or Antarctica? Or research places that regularly spray chemicals to kill bugs and animals on their property. But if you book us, please note we do not spray chemicals, or fog the property or units. We guarantee you will see all the flora and fauna these islands in the tropics have to offer. Including critters, bugs and lizards. They may find there way into your unit, especially if you leave windows and doors open. We are big fans of the catch and release program, but if this bothers you 1) Book Elsewhere 2) Head to the store and get the things you need to deter them. If you spray any chemicals please let us (or any Host you book) know so we can property do our best to DETOX the space so other guests don't have skin or breathing responses, allergic reactions, headaches or issues. HOW TO GREET OTHERS- On the island residents often say "Good Morning" "Good Afternoon" and "Good Night" as a greeting. They really appreciate and respect visitors that do the same. We invite you to try this on your excursions and adventures away from the property. The locals see this is a form of polite greeting and gesture of kindness. You are surely to receive a smile and greeting in return! LAUNDRY SERVICE- We have a Laundry Room on property. You are welcome to use it. $10/token = 1 load wash & dry. Self serve. You will need to provide your own cleaning supplies like soap, clothes softeners, bleach etc. We do sell laundry soap for $2 . If interested text or ask us about both tokens and soap. You can buy tokens from management via cash or App Pay. Please text or msg for tokens or soap. If you pay by app pay, there is a QR Code in the laundry room. LAUNDRY Location- Guest Laundry is located in Upper Villa. You will see the door labeled "Guest Laundry". If Laundry isn't your thing, GO OUT AND PLAY! WE CAN DO YOUR LAUNDRY FOR YOU. For $25/load (includes soap) we will wash, dry and fold your laundry for you so you can enjoy every minute of your trip and not worry about laundry. Reach out for details & questions. DRIVE CAREFULLY! WE DRIVE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF ROAD HERE. Please be careful if you rent a vehicle. Drive slow and steady, especially on these mountains and curvy roads. We on island time here! The speed limit on the whole island is 25mph or LESS. Please drive slow at night and with caution! If it rains, drive extra slow....lots of cars skid or hydroplane across the road. We are located on a residential road, please drive slow and pay attention to other cars passing, kids playing, neighborhood pets and animals. Most Locals here don't fence or tie up their animals and allow them to "free roam" so you will see them on them on the roads often! The property at Virgin View Villas often has foster animals, wild chickens, neighboring pets and iguanas walking around on property and in the driveway & parking lot...please pay attention to to these beautiful creatures before you enter and drive slow into your parking space. PLEASE KEEP EYE OUT FOR OUR PETS (KITTENS, DOGS AND CATS) WHEN PULLING IN AND OUT OF OUR PARKING LOT AND ON THE RESIDENTIAL ROAD! CHECK IN TIME IS 1pm or anytime after. We do PREFER to personally greet you, show you all the Common areas, your unit and answer any questions you might have. CHECK OUT- Please note check out time is at 10am. We usually have SAME DAY CHECK INS as CHECK OUTS. So that time in between guests is crucial for us to clean thoroughly, prep, fix anything in the unit to get it ready for the next guests checking in. We only get a few hours to do this. Please be respectful to the next guests and be prompt to check out at 10am. **IF THIS IS AN ISSUE, THIS WOULD BE THE TIME TO BRING IT TO OUR ATTENTION TO DISCUSS. We may be able to accommodate a late checkout FOR A FEE if no one has booked behind you. Please be mindful of this. SMOKERS- We do not allow smoking or vaping of ANY KIND inside the units…But you are welcome to smoke outside. We kindly ask that you be mindful of other guests and where the smoke blows. The property is huge so there is a lot of room to spread out. We also ask that you throw your cigarette butts in the trash PLEASE! Please don’t litter during your stay in the islands. GROCERIES- We have several grocery stores spread out through the island. You will or may notice big price differences at different locations. Note that the more "populated" or touristy an area is, the more expensive stores will be. If you are going to grocery shop here we highly recommend CostULess, Pricesmart, The Market, Moe’s Fresh Market in Redhook, Fruitbowl (organic selection) for better valued prices. In a pinch though there are lots of small little convenient stores or mini marts close by like Anna’s Market, Mandahl Market, Louie’s Market or Hometown Gas & Groceries. They don’t offer much of a selection but if you absolutely need something....think of gas station selection at these stops. SPECIALTY ITEMS- We are on a tiny little island in the middle of the ocean. That being said, EVERYTHING is shipped in here and that comes at a cost. If you like your specialty items like organic vegan creamer, or specialty makeup, or Starbucks coffee….well we just don’t have things like that here. I advise you bring those items with you. I tell all my guests if you absolutely cant live without those things…bring them. BUT if you forgot it, we kindly invite you to try and “go without” for your trip. Surely you will build appreciation for those things upon your return home:) SUNSCREEN- We only use Coral Safe or REEF SAFE Mineral Sunscreen here. It's the law. On March 30, 2019 the U.S. Virgin Islands' historic “Toxic 3 Os” Sunscreen Ban officially went into effect, making the territory the first in the United States to implement a ban of sunscreen chemicals that are known to destroy coral and cause health risks for people. What does “Reef-safe” or “Reef-friendly” Sunscreen Mean? Terms like “reef-safe” or “reef-friendly” are typically used to identify sunscreens that do not contain oxybenzone and octinoxate, two common UV-blocking chemicals, that studies have shown can cause coral bleaching. We highly recommend bringing this with you as its very expensive here to buy, often running $30-$40 a 5 oz bottle. RUST- The Virgin Islands has some of the most salinity in the world. Our waters AND air are SALTY!!!! I advise leaving expensive or valuable sunglasses, jewelry or anything with metal at home. Anything with metal here can and will rust or tarnish with salt exposure. Its in the water and in the air. If you do wear anything with metal in the ocean, rinse off with fresh water immediately after you get home. That means sunglasses, eye glasses, swimsuit clips, brackets etc., rings, necklaces…please be aware. This is also why we kindly ask you to rinse off the beach chairs after use at the beach if you use them. We do offer an outdoor shower for all our guests to rinse salt, sand off themselves and their things. Please don't do this in your unit. Sand and salt will clog our sensitive island plumbing. TIPPING- Tipping is prevalent here in the islands and greatly appreciated, similar to stateside standards. We tip our taxi drivers, bartenders, servers, tour guides, boat staff, captain and crew, anything related to service industry...especially if they provide excellent service or go above and beyond for you. But please do pay attention to your receipts at bars, restaurants, excursions etc. Often in the touristy areas, some companies AUTO GRAT customers, NOT ALL OF THEM…BUT SOME OF THEM. It can appear as a "service charge" or hospitality charge. If you see anything like this on your receipt before closing out, ask your tenant, cashier or server about what that is or covers. Better to ask questions than to presume. :) some also charge a fee to run credit cards. It is usually a %. Also note that we operate on Island Time here. Service may appear or seem much slower than where you live. If you are in a hurry, kindly and gently communicate that to your server so they can try their best to navigate & help you. In the meantime, look up, take a deep breath and enjoy thew View! If you aren't sure if you show tip anyone in particular during your stay, shoot us a quick text to ask. We are here for you and your questions! LOCAL CUISINE- We highly recommend trying some local favorite dishes, especially if this is your first time! You will see lots of food carts and food trucks here along some beaches, on the street corners or in parking lots. Don't be afraid to pull over, walk up and follow your nose! Some of our favs and suggestions are Johnny Cake, Roti, Salt Fish, Callaloo, Goat Water, Fish & Fungi, Cow Heel Soup, Sugar Cane Juice, Sour Sop Juice, Conch Fritters, Pot Fish, Red Grout. Also a MUST TRY is Spiny Lobster and Lion Fish! Coki Beach is a Great place to try authentic Caribbean Cuisine! There’s also a GREAT FARMERS MARKET on Saturday Mornings to explore local produce, fish, goat and spices! Ask us for details! DRIVING HERE- Its fun and apart of the whole experience! WE DRIVE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF ROAD HERE. Please be careful if you rent a vehicle. Drive slow and steady, especially on these mountains and curvy roads. We on island time here! Most times we don't hit a mile over 25mph while driving. You DONT NEED A 4x4! Also note locals use the 'HORN' to communicate with each other. They may wave or hit the horn to let you pass, or if they are coming around a blind corner, or just to say "Hi". Very rare to see ROAD RAGE here...and if you do it's often state-siders or Foreigners on vacation that haven't quite learned "island time or chill vibes"...yet. Also, hitchhiking is common & prevalent here. If you are standing by the road, you may get multiple drivers stopping and waving or honking at you...they are asking if you need a lift. Very safe and VERY NORMAL. If you see a fast car approaching behind and wanting to pass...well, pull over an inch or two and let them pass... It may be anywhere from 15-25%! It can appear as a "service charge" or hospitality charge. If you see anything like this on your receipt before closing out, ask your tenant, bartender, driver, cashier or server about what that is or covers. In the mean time, look up, take a deep breath and enjoy thew View! If you aren't sure if you show tip anyone in particular during your stay, shoot us a quick text to ask. We are here for you and your questions! LITTER- You may see litter during your stay on the sides of the road or beaches. 😣 We all know this was left by our fellow humans. Often visitors throw their trash down during their stay while exploring the islands….Sad to say but WE ALL NEED TO DO BETTER. We see them throwing trash out their Jeeps, the tour buses and often the beaches are covered in trash and litter after the cruise shippers leave. Multiple Cruise Ship days are the worst. We sincerely apologize if you see this, but we invite you to take a proactive approach during your stay here. Here’s HOW: Don’t litter. If you need to toss something and don't see a trash can, bring it back to the property to throw away. We have several large trash cans throughout the property for you to utilize. Also, take a trash bag with you on your adventures for your trash and then toss the bag when you return to the property. I often take trash bags with me and “pick up litter” behind others in hopes to leave a place I enjoy looking BETTER THAN I FOUND IT APPROACH. At the property we hope we can encourage you to not litter here during your stay. Please throw those cigarette butts in the trash so animals, birds and lizards don't eat them mistakenly. Also, try to use the refillable bottles for your water or beverages. You can have bartenders or servers make your drinks in them too! In fact, some bars and restaurants give you a discount if you bring your own cups! We invite you to try this in order to create LESS WASTE or excessive water bottles in the landfills and ocean. CAR RENTALS- WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The sooner you make that reservation the better deal you get! DONT WAIT TILL DAY OF ARRIVAL to rent a vehicle. They go quick and OFTEN are oversold! In our opinion we don't think a 4x4 is necessary. We have never once used our 4 wheel drive features. A small compact car honestly is easier to drive as our roads are narrow, as well as MOST parking spots! Jeeps are fun to drive, especially on an island...but don't get pressured or muscled by any Car Rental company into paying that premium for "nostalgia". --Unless you wanna. If you rented a car we know the companies usually ask for them to be cleaned before you return them. WE DO NOT ALLOW FOR ANY VEHICLES TO BE WASHED AT THE PROPERTY. NO CAR WASHING ALLOWED. If we see you washing your rental car in person or on camera, there will be an additional $100+/water fee. There are a few car washes on the island though. There is one in Bovoni at Gas Works Gas Station and another less than 2 min away in TuTu next to Bon Jour Gas station called Splash n Dash. They offer a drive through, hand wash and coin-op vacuum station for a very reasonable island price! EATING OUT- There are lots of GREAT places to explore for Dining options on island. We encourage you to think ahead and make reservations for your dinners or brunch as these are the most popular times to eat and seating is usually limited, especially during HIGH SEASON (Nov-April) Weekends get busy too! By securing a table you limit your wait time and get potentially a better dining experience (ex: request a table with a view at the appropriate venue like PRIME STEAKHOUSE at paradise point) Also note that service may take a little longer than you are use to here in the islands, we on “island time”. Don’t trust websites, or hours listed on Social Media platforms or Google Maps. Often these hours are outdated, not updated or wrong. If you are unsure please call ahead to ensure a bar, business or restaurant is open before making the trek across island. Service industry staff always appreciate tips in cash and we highly recommend double checking your receipt/bill for service charges or gratuity charges before paying. TRAVEL INSURANCE: We are BIG fans of travel insurance! Especially during Hurricane Season. We know unexpected things happen! Flights can get delayed, a hurricane can hit, plans can change. Why wouldn't you protect your trip for a small chunk of change? Most insurance policies will cover vehicle rentals, hotel costs, plane ticket changes, taxi fares in case you have an "unforeseen event" happen during your trip. At least investigate this! Our hurricane season is June1st-Jan1st. With the most active months being July-November. We DO NOT allow any Guests to remain at the property during a hurricane. You will need to fly off the island for your safety in the event of a Hurricane. WE THANK YOU for taking the time to read all this and OPEN MINDNESS! We know the Virgin Islands aren't the "States" and we don't have anything close to "stateside" amenities but we find this place charming, minimalist, and hope you experience it! We sincerely hope you embrace these suggestions, ideas, tips and enjoy your stay with us at VIRGIN VIEW VILLAS or anywhere on St Thomas! If you have any questions at all, please reach out. We are here for you! We hope we get the opportunity to HOST YOU! Life is better in Flip Flops!
