Description

The Place is cool. But... Staying here isn't about The Place. It's about who you are? Why you came here? Want to settle into a relaxing Olde World vibe and write that novel? Or did you select ‘The Haunting’ paranormal stay? What, if anything, do you hope to leave here (leave all your cares...we'll burn em at FireFly Stage!) And, in the end, who do you—which version of you—will leave? The space First Off....reasons you might NOT like staying here: (And to ALL our Guest, most of who have kindly granted us 5 Stars…. You people have been just too kind for all the good reviews! Yet, no space is perfect for EVERYONE! So….) Other considerations are: we have old cool, but noisy brick streets, and if a cattle trailer goes by too fast… you can hear em (especially out on the balcony). The bed is a Murphy regular / double sized bed. It can be lifted up to disappear into the closet if you want more space! And on concert nights.... 300 to 2,500 people are in the courtyard till at least 10:30...and sometimes the party continues throughout the building till the wee hours....mostly in the HEAVILY sound-proofed RedRoom ‘Dungeon’ on the first floor (which is NOT directly under any of the 5 FireFly Lofts). (no shows scheduled for Spring 2025) Also, please note we have wifi, but there is currently no TV in the room (bought one, afraid to put it up, afraid I'd sit in there ALL the time—had to get rid of TV 35 years ago). That's all I can think of....now on to: REASONS YOU MAY LIKE STAYING HERE..... Normally, just the opposite of concert nights… you will find the INSIDE of the Lofts to be MUCH quieter due to the 4 - 5 🧱 thick walls of The Whitten Building. If you wish to cook, a full grocery store is located on the adjacent property (a one minute walk… if you walk slowly) Guests staying two nights receive access to Grandview Fitness, an on site 24/hr gym. (Should this be moved to: Reasons You Might NOT Like Staying Here…? 🙂) The Property A small efficiency apartment with kitchenette and private full bathroom. The Loft is located on the second floor of the historic Whitten Building (a 1924 brick building with original heartwood pine floors, metal ceilings with—the world's only ?—bar in a working elevator!) enjoy balcony access (via hand carved wooden door w/Sun, Moon, and Stars) and a view overlooking music and activities at Grandview's FireFly Stage & Plaza areas. Dining: Italian, Mexican, American dining all within walking distance (1 block or less to each). Media Room with 100” projector screen and 1,500 watt 12 speaker (double subbed 🔈 🔊!) sound system is reservable based on availability. (If this is important to you just inquire at booking and we can either commit to your chosen time, or let ya know what activity* is planned for the night for the whole building!) *Typical Activities: Movie Night; MMA Fight Night; board games; tele-presence broadcast concert night; and finally, we are one of the remaining Guitar Hero / Rock Band strongholds with over 1,000 songs available! If you are looking for a unique blend of Old World Charm, mixed w technology, and small town Texas life....this is it! (We call the architectural style: Gothic Western. Or is it Western Gothic. My architect and I really cannot ‘settle’ on it.) Full bathroom, kitchenette (with stove, sink, and small fridge). (please note the kitchenette has the appliances listed but the pantries are NOT fully stocked with all the regular stuff you find in a lived in casa, more like the Residence Inn type kitchenette, though we and gracious guests are slowly building the cooking empirelette utensil arsenal). And a small wooden table with two bar stools for dining, laptop work, or games! Another element important to some people: the building used to house a mortuary and is supposedly haunted! If that's your thing...you'll LOVE this place (you can hear many stories at the local cafe or looked up on the web....and, reportedly, you may hear ‘oddities’ on the antique radio places in the room). We (current owners Bart & Linda Clark) don't tend to see things that way....but for an excellent well-balance alternative view check out the video & article on our place at: (Airbnb.com — for good reason may I add, does not allow posting of active links: but if you search YouTube for ‘Whitten Building’ & ‘Stockyard Paranormal’, you will find a 20+ minute video by the excellent paranormal team who has spent two nights here!) And… again ONLY if interested… you may wish to inquire about a more adventurous stay guests have referred to as, The Haunting. Any more questions....just contact us! Guest access Guests staying two nights receive access to Grandview Fitness, an on site 24/hr gym. Unique among the FireFly Lofts: you are allowed two pets (up to 45 pound limit — insurance rules the world). Also, all pets must be legal under Texas State & local laws. In other words, among other creatures, no black mambas…etc. During your stay Depends.... Lots of variables here? Mainly...what are we / you feeling like on a given evening? Short version is: we follow our Guests lead… Most people we check em in and really don't see them again…. Other times guests will join us on the balcony for a glass of wine and a few dozen rounds of Corgi-Run fetch with Bree*. Or on movie nights, in the RedRoom for a 100" cinematic film . Other influences.... Is there a concert? Is it a festival weekend? How's the weather? Do you want The Haunting Stay....or the mundane uneventful stay? On non-concert nights...I'm often asleep by 8:30pm...but sometimes we stay up LATE and hang out on the balcony. And on it goes....but the crucial influence is the King: what does everyone feel like, with Guest Privacy ruling supreme. (As cool as The Old Building & FireFly Stage is… we attribute our string of HIGH GUEST RATINGS to this fact: Guest Privacy is KING & QUEEN regulating our interactions: just tell us what you are in the mood for!** *Bree hath passed on to The Bridge where she awaiteth our arrival… but I cannot yet bear to remove her from our listing… she was an oft-me ruined favorite of guests! But do not fear, when serving as Mayor of our fair city, espousing a no-kill shelter, we were summarily forced to adopt Honey! Honey Bear is a … mostly Corgi and will be seen on the ‘Corgi-Run…(and now of course we can’t imagine life without her!) **as we — gasp! — age… another scenario is… The Owners are often asleep by 10pm! (But our sleeping area is well-isolated from The MicroLoft & RedRoom.) We started this airbnb thing as an experiment....mostly cause it's just fun to meet new people and it's ashamed to have such a cool little place and have NO ONE ever experience it. We don't lease it often, nor generally for more than 3 nights, as it is a part of our home (though with separate entry). The 'hassle' of doing this is NOT offset by the financial payback (though our daughter appreciates it as she gets the net as a kind of payback for having to grow up in an 8'X9' room in our old farm house—(she only got to spend a couple months in the MicroLoft before leaving for grad school). We've continuud to do this for two real reasons: the Airbnb system and people make it really easy ...and our guest have been universally just neat, kind, fun people! Other things to note The Haunting Stay: if you choose this....please send us a message in the official airbnb system so we all have a record of you 'asking for it'...What is the only difference?: it will remind us to have the antique child's rocking chair left over from ages passed, moved back into the room—sometimes, especially if we are out of town, we forget to get this done… so you must request this in writing via the Airbnb system. (Airbnb.com — for good reason may I add, does not allow posting of active links: but if you search YouTube for ‘Whitten Building’ & ‘Stockyard Paranormal Society’ you will find a 20+ minute video by the excellent team who has spent two nights here!) 👻
