Maquengue Falls

Maquengue Falls is a 320 acre farm located along the Rio Destierro on the slopes of Volcan Turrialba in the Highlands of the Costa Rican Caribbean. There is a 25 acre forest with trails that take you to the waterfalls. The place is a viewpoint where you can see the Caribbean Sea and Cerro Tortuguero. Maquengue Falls is located at Alegría de Siquirres, 10 minutes from Route 32. It is a Private Reserve with trails leading to the Falls of the River Destierro. The space Maquengue is a mountain lodge, with a 25-hectare private nature reserve with trails leading to the waterfalls of the River Deseierro. Accommodation is provided, the type of accommodation are villas, they have 2 bedrooms one with queen bed and the second with 2 single beds. In addition, they have a fully equipped kitchen, a living room with cable TV, a private bathroom with hot water, and a terrace with spectacular views. The whole place is a viewpoint, there are some villas that have internet but are located 1 km from the social area, they have a view of 🌋 the Turrialba Volcano and there is a viewpoint to see one of our waterfalls. Villas that are close to the social area do not have internet, but in the social area we do have. The hike to the falls is possible before half a day, at 9 am it is usually the time we do tours, if it has been raining days before it is likely that the hike will not be possible. If it rains on the day itself it is not possible to do the hike and if it is raining either because it is a canyon of a river, there may be collapses, falling rocks, trees etc. Nearby there are "pulperías” that are mini supermarkets, one called “Yirufa” is the most complete. In the center of La Alegría there are 2 soditas, “Soda Yoli” and “Soda Delicias” are small, inexpensive restaurants but only speak Spanish. In addition to this, La Alegría also has a bakery and butcher shop ( the butcher shop only opens Monday to Friday and closes at noon ). There are also greengroceries and a gentleman sells fruits going up from the center to Maquengue, on the street. There are only large supermarkets in Guapiles if it comes from San Jose it would be the best option, there is "Maxipali” that is from the “Walmart” chain, there is also a “Megasuper” (both on route 32) that is a smaller supermarket. Turning to guapiles center there is a “masxmenos” there are some delicatessen items. In downtown Siquirres there are also large supermarkets but only “Maxipali” and “Megasuper” (Siquirres is 17km from Maquengue)
