The space Small yard is adjacent to open mountainside on NW. This cabin of about 675 sq.' was formerly managed by owner's daughter Baily, it's last long-term tenant - who left to pursue a Master's in Sustainable Fashion design & management field; she is a Superhost of the cabin’s past few years. Her serger sewing machine is meanwhile stored in the living room, off-limits to guests please. A few expressions by her and friends from her artist community remain on the premises, like the mat woven of bike inner tubes at entrance, and a profile of a flower (an Indian paintbrush Lotus? thistle?) on one bathroom wall. A few other contributions from past tenants remain: recipes written inside cupboard doors, and unfinished paintings of trout on panels of a closet door. Living & dining areas just received a fresh coat of paint of a light sunny hue, and new flooring was just laid in kitchen & dining room. A small pile of firewood is provided to start a fire in Fisher Baby Bear woodstove; but you might want to bring more if you want it to burn all night in place of electric heat on very cold winter nights. Windows and video security cameras on 3 sides reveal a bit of what's going on outside to cabin occupants; foxes, deer, chipmunks, deer, elk, bear, and even (once) a mountain lion are known to be/have been in the area, especially since the town did away with their street lights. Unless there's something big going on downtown to make a ruckus (as Man of the Cliff, -originally a Red Cliff event - once effected) it's usually a very quiet place, with the hum of chain saws or occasional bark of dogs from town in the daytime; at night one could hear a pin drop, or the river below. One of the present owners grew up in house up the drive up from the cabin. Her parents, who were teachers when there was a school in Red Cliff, obtained the other residence properties on the hill there as rentals; buying the cabin from miner Frank Robinson in the early 60s. We lived there when just out of college, managed it for the last 42 years, and purchased it a few years ago to keep as a rental in order to preserve a little piece of the hill for family. We now live 37 miles down-valley, but as rare Colorado natives, know the territory well & are happy to furnish you with any information we can about the area. Sandy has worked in 2 local information centers, and Mike is an experienced 4-wheeler who has explored much of the back-country around Red Cliff. It's a great place to hang, veg out in peace awhile, take walks up many mountain trails around, write, create, or pursue the many adventures offered by the surrounding mountains. The cabin is not recommended for children because of an un-fenced and steep drop of about 12 - 20' from the yard to the road right below it, the crumbling old bits of cribbing at its base, and steep, narrow, uneven steps that serve as the access to the cabin (see picture); nor is it recommended for people with certain handicaps who would have a hard time with this. The floors are not level - characteristic of many old mining homes, and things may roll off of surfaces; but it is authentic, certainly unique, and basically unchanged except for layers of "perfume on the pig" and necessary changes of some of the fixtures as modernity dictated through decades; but otherwise is the same basic cabin it was in its earlier mining years. Comments we've heard from visitors to Red Cliff over the decades: "How charming!" "How primitive!" and our favorite, from Mike's dad the first time he visited, "How basic!" That's the cabin. Guest access Guests have access to all rooms: Living, dining, kitchen, bedroom and kitchen, and to yard and hillside on North west side of cabin. Other things to note The stackable washer and dryer accommodate only LIGHT loads of laundry.
