McKenzie Riverfront Cabin, Modern, near hotsprings

Escape to "The McKenzie Zen Den", a luxury waterfront river cabin. One of the few rare properties built on the banks of the McKenzie River, so close you can fish from the deck! Downstairs is a riverside bedroom, full modern kitchen, and a full bath with a large custom walkin shower. Upstairs has a large bedroom, desk nook, and a half-bath. The space This cabin was previously known as Heaven's Gate Cabin #2. The original 1940's cabin was tragically lost in the Holiday Farm fire of September 2020, but we were lucky enough to be able to rebuild. We're located in the exact same footprint as the previous cabin, still on the banks of the McKenzie, but now with some much needed upgrades and modern comforts. FUN ADVENTURES CLOSE BY: - Blue Pool: 3.9 mile out and back hike, considered to be moderate, to a striking pool of clear blue water. 30 minutes away. - Proxy Falls: One of the most scenic water falls in all of Oregon. 55 minutes away. - Clear Lake: Pristine Alpine lake fed primarily by snow runoff. 40 minutes away. - Cougar Hot Springs: Terwilliger Hot Springs, also known as Cougar Hot Springs, are geothermal pools, does require $10 pass. 24 minutes away. - McKenzie River Mountain Bike Trail: The MRT is 20+ miles of flowing singletrack, ideally located among old growth forest, waterfalls,mosses, ferns and brilliant blue pools of water. 25 minutes away. - Tokatee Golf Club: Nestled in the beautiful McKenzie River Valley with glistening views of the Three Sisters Mountains. 12 minutes away. FYI: We're located on the river, but also right next to the highway. Road noise is an unfortunate reality of our location. We did what we could during construction to minimize the noise, and though it is much better than it was, we still feel like we need to warn our guests. The cabin now has two stories. Downstairs has a 2-story great room, full size kitchen, riverfront deck, riverside bedroom, and full bathroom. Upstairs has a second bedroom with vaulted ceilings, working space with river views, and a half bath. Great Room: Open the front door of the cabin and you'll step through a short hallway before entering a two-story great room with soaring views of the McKenzie River. There's a small couch here to enjoy a movie night or a good book; but the best part of the great room is the 12' sliding glass door that opens onto the deck. This doubles the space of the great room and brings the outdoors in. Tip: Bringing the outdoors in also means bugs. Leave the sliding door shut if you're bug squeamish or if there was a recent hatch along the river. We have fly swatters and an electric zapper under the microwave if needed. Kitchen: The full-size kitchen is located in the great room. It has new stainless steel appliances including range, refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave. All kitchen counters are quartz including the large center island that doubles as a dining table to for two. Tip: If you need more indoor seating, we have two folding stools located behind the couch. A stepstool for reaching items on high shelves is located between the cabinets and the sliding door. Deck: Our deck may be the best part of the cabin. Its directly over the riverbank, so close you can fish off of it. It's a great spot to eat a meal, sip a drink, or even sunbathe as it has southern exposure and gets sun all day long. A lighted awning means you can enjoy at night or even in rainy weather. The Yeti cooler is NOT to leave the cabin, but feel free to use it on the deck. It'll be stored in the downstairs closet, inside the bedroom. Tip: We bring the cushions for the outdoor furniture inside if rainy weather is expected and store them in the downstairs bedroom closet. Feel free to bring out if weather is nice during your stay. HVAC: There are three different "heads" to the system, which all link to one compressor outside. The heads cannot be on different modes e.g. cool vs heat. All three heads/remotes must be set to either cool or heat in order to turn on, otherwise it gets confused and shuts down. If you want to switch from cool to heat or vice verse here are the steps. Turn one head at the time to cool or heat, then turn it off. Once you've swapped all of them to cool or heat they can all be turned on an set to your desired temperature. Cool is a snowflake, heat looks like a sun. Bedroom 1: The downstairs bedroom has a king-size memory foam mattress and a river-facing window. It also has it's own hvac system and ceiling fan to help keep you comfortable at night. Tip: This is the quieter of the two bedrooms if road noise bothers you. Bathroom: The full bath has an custom walk-in shower, high end fixtures, and trench style vanity top. Bathroom has oversized Pendleton towels, with a topographical map of Oregon's very own Mount Hood! Tip: If you forgot any toiletries, check the baskets under the vanity. Bedroom 2: The upstairs bedroom has a king-size memory foam mattress, vaulted ceilings, and river-facing window. It also has it's own hvac system and ceiling fan to help keep you comfortable at night. Tip: The lower bedroom is quieter if road noise bothers you. Working Space: We have a desk and chair located in a private niche of bedroom #2. There is a sitting-height window in front of the desk to let in river-views while working. Tip: We have supplies and inspiration for sketching and poetry in the desk drawers. Half-Bath: The half-bath is located right off of bedroom #2, and helps you avoid middle of the night trips down the stairs. River Access: If capable, you can scramble down the side of the cabin to the river bank under our deck. There's a great fishing hole here and a swinging bench. Tip: There's a light switch underneath to turn the string lights on/off. Guest access Guests will have access to the entire property except for two locked closets that have housekeeping and storage items. Other things to note ROAD NOISE: We're located on the river, but also right next to the highway. Road noise is an unfortunate reality of our location. We did what we could during construction to minimize the noise, but still feel like we need to warn our guests. If it bothers you at night, we have ear plugs in the nightstands and the alarm clocks have sound machine functions. Keep in mind that road noise is worst on Sundays, holiday weekends, and rainy days. The lower bedroom is quieter than the upstairs one. KIDS: ALWAYS supervise children when on the deck or near the river or highway. The highway and the river are extremely dangerous - we cannot stress this enough. Inside, we have window locks for the bedroom windows if you're concerned about your kids opening the windows at night. You'll need to gently pop the screens out to use them, and they operate with a key that is located on the top shelf of the TV niche above the books. PARKING: Feel free to park on the highway shoulder directly in front of the cabin, or in the gravel parking lot on the North side of the highway across from our cabin. Please use caution when crossing the street, vehicles come around the corner to the west very quickly. RIVER: Swift currents, rapids, freezing temperatures, and debris make the river unsafe for swimming. If you would like to swim, we suggest cougar reservoir, blue river reservoir, or any of the many small natural lakes in the area. PILLOWS: We have four different types of pillows in the cabin. If you can't find one you like, bring your own pillow next time! LANDSCAPING: Please bear with us as we continue to recover post-fire. We've been working with a local watershed protection program to help us restore the land around our cabin. It's a work in process and will take several years to complete. It will only continue to look better! DUST: We dust between every cleaning, but vibrations from the road and black paint aren't forgiving. Please remember we're a rural cabin and not a five-star hotel while reviewing us. ON ROUTE: If you're headed to the cabin coming from the Western side (From Eugene), there are there key points. First is the Dollar General 20-minutes out, its more like a general store. Last chance for ingredients, toiletries, essentials, etc. IKE's Pizza 13-minutes out, if you're hungry and want something easy on the way, call in an order and you won't regret! Everyone's Market/Gas 10-minutes out, last call for ice, beer, whatever else you forgot! Checkout Instructions: 1. Checkout Time is 10am 2. Place used towels in the shower. 3. Place all dirty dishes in the dishwasher and run on quick setting. 4. Make sure all lights and appliances are off - e.g. fireplace, stove, oven, (Please leave front porch light on) 5. Turn of HVAC units to 65 during colder months or 70 during warmer months. 6. Travel safe!
