Description
"Gelso" is the first of 3 flats of "Villa La Milanina". From the terrace in typical Aeolian style, you will enjoy a magnificent view: you will feel embraced by the Monte Rosa peninsula and the slopes of Monte Gallina and you will admire the wonderful bay of Lipari and the island's ancient fortress. Located a 15-minute walk from the port, you can forget the chaos of the city and immerse yourself in the sounds and fragrances that the Aeolian nature offers! The space "Gelso" apartment centrally located in the main complex and recently renovated, consists of a large masonry kitchen in classic Aeolian style and a fully renovated bathroom equipped with a large shower. The living room consists of a comfortable double sofa bed and a loft with a double French bed. The covered terrace is fully equipped with a dining table and lounge chairs for relaxing and after a day at the beach or on a boat and enjoying the view of the castle and Lipari Bay in the background! Adjacent to the large central terrace sits the belvedere, complete with deck chairs and hammocks shaded by the century-old almond tree. Oriented to the east, you won't be able to miss breathtaking sunrises! Guest access The entrance and parking are independent, the large terrace is shared with the Mandorlo apartment but separated by a partition to give you more privacy. The apartment is derived from the old villa dated 1778 of which the Mandorlo apartment and the Limoni apartment are also part. The villa, belonging to our family, has been recently renovated keeping alive its typical Aeolian style! Other things to note We'll leave you with a few small tips to help you take your first steps on Lipari ... then we'll leave it to you to discover day by day what the Aeolian Islands have to offer! Scooter/car hire The scooter is undoubtedly the most convenient means of getting around the island and getting to the beaches. There are numerous places on the island, in the centre of Lipari, that rent scooters and/or cars. Boat trips The beauty of the Aeolian Islands can best be appreciated by spending a few days exploring the different islands by boat. You can choose from many boat companies that offer daily visits to Salina, Vulcano, Panarea and Stromboli and Filicudi and Alicudi. We suggest you go to the marina at Marina Corta where there are several stalls with daily proposals. We have often relied on companies with not very large boats for a maximum of 20/25 people. In this way, the trip becomes pure fun and often nice and engaging situations are created among the participants! ... Food Aeolian cuisine is very rich and offers mainly fish dishes, but not only! Fish lovers cannot miss a taste of stuffed squid or fried ring squid; another very tasty fish is spoonbill to be eaten baked with cherry tomatoes and the classic sarde a beccafico! Pasta all'eoliana with capers, cherry tomatoes and olives is very popular and tasty. If you happen to go to the restaurant 'a Menza Quartara' for dinner, we recommend you try the sweet and sour rabbit (must be booked at least one day in advance). We also recommend Le Macine restaurant, where every ingredient is fresh and genuine (excellent raw materials and homemade pasta and bread made from Lipari-grown grains). For a frugal meal, on the other hand, there are plenty of options along Lipari's main street and in the hamlet of Canneto! Definitely try the granitas with their ever-present brioche and the freshly filled ricotta and pistachio cannolo. The Fratelli D'Ambra pastry shop and the Le Terrazze pastry bar in Lipari and the Piccolo bar in the pretty hamlet of Canneto will not disappoint. Beaches ... places ... Lipari, being a volcanic island, has pebble and stone beaches, so you are advised to equip yourself with rock shoes to move around more freely. The sea is crystal clear and warm and, depending on how the wind is blowing, which is the master on the island, you can reach Spiagge Bianche to the east or Vallemuria to the west. Having parked your car or scooter, both can be reached with a walk of about 10 minutes, but those who do not feel up to the climb can take the boats that shuttle between the different beaches. They leave either from Canneto or from the Marina Corta marina. From Villa La Milanina, Vallemuria is just two kilometres away going towards the scenic locality of Quattrocchi, while Spiagge Bianche and White Beach can be reached in about six kilometres going towards the hamlet of Canneto and then continuing towards the pumice quarries. Another place we find very picturesque is the small hamlet of Acquacalda, located at the north-west end of the island, from where you can admire the sunset over the neighbouring island of Salina! A tour of the island by land will allow you to see all the islands and if you go in the evening you can admire breathtaking sunsets from the San Calogero thermal baths with Filicudi and Alicudi in the background. The view from Quattrocchi will enchant you as will the view from another beautiful vantage point, the geological observatory of San Salvatore, where Vulcano, the island closest to Lipari, is constantly monitored by geologists for its tireless volcanic activity that creates spectacular landscapes. You can stroll through the narrow streets of the centre browsing through the picturesque shops and up to the Civita where the town hall is located and the ascent to the castle within the walls. The view is stunning and you can take the opportunity to visit the Archaeological Museum, one of the most important archaeological museums in Italy. It is organised in different structures and divided by historical period from prehistory to the Middle Ages. On fine July evenings, you can enjoy theatre performances and film screenings in the ancient and atmospheric Greek amphitheatre surrounded by maritime pines. ... more information Lipari is the only island of the seven Aeolian Islands to have its own hospital with an emergency room. There are pharmacies, banks, ATMs and a post office both in the centre of Lipari and in the hamlet of Canneto. There are several supermarkets and discount stores also open on Sundays (in the summer months). Lipari is connected by a bus service run by the URSO company to the various villages and beaches. The terminus is at the port of Lipari, where timetables can also be found. During the summer period, the runs, especially to Canneto, are very frequent. There is a bus stop not far from Villa La Milanina. If you want to take home a souvenir of the Aeolian Islands, you can buy/collect obsidian jewellery on the beach, the typical black lava stone, handmade ceramics, pumice stone always formed by a transformation of volcanic lava, capers and malvasia both locally produced (especially from the nearby island of Salina), the typical Aeolian spiced and almond sweets, such as nacatole and spicchitedda! We hope this little guide will help you start your holiday discovering this magnificent island! Registration Details IT083041C28MTZ9SJO
