HISTORY And the story begins in the 17th century when the local rulers were looking for the most appropriate place to save the village from the pillaging of pirates.They were searching for a location from which they would clearly see the pirates' ships approaching all the surrounding beaches. Everyone agreed that this place was the property of the Doukaki family. It was the highest point on the hill that perfectly served their purpose. They set shifts("vardia" in greek) for six hours so the area was never left unattended. Since then, the area is called Vardia(shift) as well as the villa built ,by the newest family member, Mrs Anna Doukaki.
