The space Set in Fortuneswell on the Isle of Portland, our lovingly restored Victorian stone cottage is a welcoming and characterful base for exploring Dorset’s Jurassic Coast. With sea views across Lyme Bay, three bedrooms, an enclosed courtyard garden and Chesil Beach just a 6-minute walk away, it’s well placed for couples, families and friends looking for a relaxed coastal stay. Up to two dogs are welcome too. Inside, everything is set up to help you feel at home, whether you’re heading out for a day on the coast, enjoying a cosy evening in or combining your break with a little remote working. Ground floor A welcoming hallway leads into the cosy sitting room with a wood-burner-effect electric fire, Fire TV, board games and puzzles – ideal for relaxed evenings after a day by the sea. The dining room has a table with seating for six, a cosy coal-effect electric fire, a collection of local books and a dedicated workspace with desk and chair – handy for remote working, catching up on emails or planning the next day’s adventures. The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need for easy home cooking, including a gas hob, double oven and dishwasher. There’s also a utility area with a washing machine and a downstairs WC. First floor The spacious bathroom has a large walk-in rain shower, separate full-size bath and heated towel rail – particularly welcome after a day walking the coast path. The main bedroom has a king-size bed and partial sea views, while the twin bedroom has two single beds, practical storage and coastal touches. Second floor – loft bedroom Light-filled and peaceful, the loft bedroom has a double bed and panoramic sea views across Lyme Bay – one of our favourite features of the cottage and a lovely place to wake up. Family-friendly touches Families are very welcome. A travel cot and highchair are provided, along with toddler toilet seats, step stools, children’s cutlery and crockery, and a selection of books, games and puzzles. Please bring your own cot bedding. The cottage is arranged over three floors and stair gates are not provided, so parents of babies and toddlers should bear this in mind. Dog-friendly stays Up to two small/medium, well-behaved dogs are welcome for £25 per stay. The enclosed rear garden gives them some outside space. Dogs are downstairs only, should be kept off the furniture (unless using own throws/blankets) and must not be left alone in the cottage. Outdoor space The enclosed rear garden has a table and seating for six with a cantilever parasol – a lovely spot for breakfast, drinks or dinner outside. There’s also secure storage for wetsuits, bikes or kayaks. Location Chesil Beach and the South West Coast Path are just a 6-minute walk away, putting coastal walks, sea swims and some spectacular Portland scenery within easy reach. The Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy is around a mile away, while Weymouth and its sandy beach can be reached easily by car or bus. Good to know The cottage has central heating, reliable hot water and Wi-Fi throughout. As you’d expect from a Victorian cottage, the stairs are fairly steep and may not be suitable for guests with significant mobility difficulties or unsupervised very young children. There is no private parking at the cottage. Hambro Road public car park is just behind the property, with on-street parking also available nearby.
