Welcome to The Hidden Gem, a peaceful retreat tucked away in Gem Village where wide-open views and quiet surroundings create the perfect escape. Just minutes from Bayfield and an easy drive to Durango, you’ll enjoy two king beds, a fully equipped kitchen, walk-in shower, laundry, cozy seating, and a covered porch that’s just as inviting after a day of adventure as it is with your morning coffee. The space The Hidden Gem offers quiet surroundings, beautiful valley views and thoughtful hospitality. Just 3 miles from Bayfield and only 25 minutes from downtown Durango, you’ll be perfectly located for exploring everything Southwest Colorado has to offer—from Durango, Vallecito Lake, and Mesa Verde to scenic drives, hiking, fishing, hunting, skiing, and countless outdoor adventures. If you’re visiting during the winter and snow is in the forecast, we recommend a vehicle with AWD or 4WD. One of the things guests love most is simply being here. Start your morning with coffee on the covered porch, unwind in the rocking chairs as the sun sets over the irrigated pastures, or simply enjoy the quiet that’s become a rarity these days. Throughout the year you’ll often spot local wildlife and hear birds singing in the mature trees, while warmer months bring visits from hummingbirds and butterflies that guests of all ages enjoy. Inside, you’ll find a spacious studio designed to feel more like home than a typical vacation rental. The fully equipped kitchen includes updated appliances, cookware, dishes, and a dining table for four where you can enjoy meals while taking in the surrounding views. Whether you’re preparing breakfast before heading out or cooking dinner after a full day of exploring, you’ll have everything you need. The complimentary coffee station is stocked with a Keurig (single-cup and carafe), an electric kettle, coffee, tea, hot cocoa, creamer, sugar, honey, and a few extra touches to help you settle in. The comfortable living area offers cozy seating, a Smart TV (just log into your favorite streaming services), board games, and coloring books for younger guests. When it’s time to relax, you’ll find two king-size memory foam beds with premium linens, bedside charging stations, and a second Smart TV. The bathroom features a walk-in shower and is stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, fresh towels, and a hair dryer. Strong Wi-Fi and an in-unit stacked washer and dryer make both short getaways and extended stays comfortable and convenient. There is no air conditioning, but thanks to the building’s design, the studio stays surprisingly cool during the summer—especially when you open the windows in the evening and let in Colorado’s cool mountain air. During the winter, forced-air heat keeps the space warm and cozy. You’ll also appreciate the ample parking, including plenty of room for boats, hunting trailers, and other recreational gear. We live next door, so we’re always nearby if you need anything during your stay. We’ll respect your privacy so you can enjoy this retreat, but you will likely see us around the property or in the yard. Whether you’re here for adventure, reconnecting with family, or simply looking for a place to slow down and recharge, we hope you’ll leave feeling rested, refreshed, and already planning your next visit. Guest access You’ll have the whole studio guesthouse to yourselves, but will see us around the property. You’ll have your own parking area with a nice path to get to your front door. I ask that you please don’t go in to other buildings near your space and stay close to the Airbnb area. Other things to note I do have a pond at a distance that is not fenced. Please keep children away. The neighbors have farm animals and dogs but please leave them alone. The road coming up from the highway is narrow so please drive slowly (10mph). I am on a well and will be asking you to not let water run unnecessarily while using the sink or shower. No additional guests are accepted for overnight stays outside of the occupants listed on the reservation. During the months of April through the beginning of August, there will be goats on the property being raised for 4H. You will see them near where you’ll park and may hear them a bit during your stay. Please do not feed the goats but feel free to give them a scratch if they stand still!
