The space This house is part of the historic Lake Mahinapua Hotel complex - one of New Zealand's most iconic and beloved historic hotels located just 10 minutes south of Hokitika. The Lake Mahinapua Hotel has been welcoming travelers since 1905 with a heritage deeply rooted in the gold rush era where it originally served as a vital resting place for gold miners and travelers. It was owned by a Scotsman from Edinburgh who came to the West Coast as a miner and dredge worker in the late 1800s. The property holds fascinating stories of bygone days. It continues to welcome guests from all over the world offering an array of lodging options, recreational activities and an onsite Bar & Eating House serving beverages, brunch, lunch and dinner Tuesday-Sunday. We are located near the Wilderness Cycle Trail and have lockable bike racks. Unwind and relax in the communal spa pool and garden courtyard which serves as the hub of the property with the Bar & Eating House on one side and the accommodation intimately nestled next to each other on the other side surrounded by established trees and garden. Wake up to the sound of the nearby ocean waves lapping the shore. In the evenings tuck into our West Coast-infused all-day menu in-house or order take-out and enjoy fresh blue cod & chips at the beach beside a bonfire as you witness an epic West Coast sunset. There are a multitude of recreational activities to discover: The Beach The beach can be directly accessed via a short 400m scenic walk through farmland and from here, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the Southern Alps' snow-capped peaks. Grab a picnic hamper from our onsite Eating House or order your favourite take-out meal and enjoy a seaside feast! As the sun sets, light a bonfire, toast marshmallows, and watch as the sky paints a beautiful West Coast sunset. If you fancy some zen time, hire a yoga mat from our reception and indulge in a tranquil self-guided yoga session by the beach. The Lake Lake Mahinapua offers a serene setting for picnics, swimming, yoga and bird watching. You might even spot a great white heron! For the explorers among us, check out the enchanting glow Worm Dell or embark on one of the bush walks such as the Jim Micheal Walk or the Swimmers Beach Walk. Spa Pool After a day packed with activities, unwind in our spa pool. It's the perfect way to rejuvenate for another day of adventure! Guest access Communal garden and courtyard area with shared spa pool, outdoor shower and the onsite Bar & Eating House. Beach access 400m via a trail. Lake Mahinapua is directly opposite via a 700m bush track. Other things to note Please note, this house is part of the Lake Mahinapua Hotel and in close proximity to the onsite Bar & Eating House which is also open to the general public. Please note that the Bar & Eating house operates seasonally from November to early April. During the open season, our hours are: 🍴Wednesday – Sunday: 12:00 PM until late 🍴Monday & Tuesday: Closed 🍴Kitchen: Serving delicious meals from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM Spa Pool is open from 11 AM til 8 PM.
