Cosy Cottage with Canal Views
Cosy Cottage with Canal Views
Description
Wake up to breathtaking views over Dundas Aqueduct and Conkwell Woods. Wander down to the canal towpath where you will discover stunning walks, bike rides and kayaking and paddleboarding adventures to Brassknocker Basin, Avoncliff, Bradford-on-Avon, Bath and beyond. This little cottage is a peaceful haven, yet only three miles from the bustling city of Bath. On the edge of Cotswolds and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this is an ideal location for exploring, whatever the weather. The space The cottage is accessed from the road through gates onto a gravel driveway which is shared with the main house. There is parking directly in front of the cottage door for your use (please ask if you require more than one space). The cottage is adjacent to the main house with its own private entrance. There is level access from the driveway directly into the bedroom area which contains a double pocket sprung divan bed and a flip out sofa bed which is ideal for a child. Should the sofa bed be required, please let us know so that we can make it up for you. There is a wall-mounted flat screen Bang & Olufsen TV, hanging rail, bedside cabinets with lamps and a small chest of drawers. The TV has a Firestick with Netflix provided. The windows and the Velux windows in the roof have remote controlled blinds to block out the light. A small, laptop-friendly desk, chair and lamp are provided for your use looking out over stunning views of Conkwell Woods. Downstairs is open plan, with a kitchen/dining area and a very comfy Loaf sofa. There is a travel cot under the stairwell for your use and a high chair can also be provided upon request (see photos). The modern shower room is compact but has a WC, basin with mirrored cabinet above, shower cubicle and heated towel rail. We have installed a Bang & Olufsen speaker bar downstairs which can be used via bluetooth from your mobile phone. The kitchen area has an under-counter fridge, sink with draining board, microwave, single ring electric hob, Dualit kettle and toaster and cafetière. The cupboards and drawers are very well stocked. Please note that there is no oven, but a slow cooker is available. The dining table opens out to seat 4 people. The cottage has 2 new column radiators upstairs and 2 downstairs along with underfloor heating on the lower floor. There are French doors out onto our terrace with pull-down privacy blinds. A gravelled private seating area is provided for your sole use with a table, 4 chairs and a parasol. The garden is steep with stone steps down and provides access to our bike and boat shed at the bottom, where 2 mountain bikes and 2 kayaks are available for your use. We can provide bike locks, helmets and buoyancy aids by prior arrangement. The garden has direct access to the Kennet and Avon canal towpath through a private, locked gate. We like to welcome our guests to the cottage and hand over the keys, however feel free to lock up and pop the keys through the letterbox when you depart. Guest access Your hosts live in the property next door to the cottage, but there is a gate between our entrances. The garden is shared, but we have provided a private, sunny patio for your use. Whilst this is not screened off, it is secluded. The cottage is on two levels, with the shower room on the ground floor so may not be suitable for those with mobility issues. The garden is steep and terraced with a number of steps, but the bikes and kayaks are stored at the bottom for ease of access to the towpath. The kayaks will need to be carried over a small foot bridge to be launched into the canal, which is more manageable with 2 people. Other things to note We do not have any pets but there is plenty of wildlife in the garden and beyond, including a heron who often sits at the top of the neighbours' tree and a family of swans on the canal.
