Description

- Great value! - Perfect launch point to: Otavalo, Equator Monument, Lake San Pablo boat trips, Cotacachi leather village, Cochasqui ruins, Mojanda crater lagoons, Mindo - Complimentary transfer from the airport (3+ nights) - Authentic feel - Spacious with modern facilities - Year - round spring The space Things to do at and around the farm: •Beautiful walks around the farm • Take a look at the stars next to our fire pit •. Grilling • Enjoy our hamacas (hammocks) Day trips • 1 hour drive north from Quito and 50 minutes to Otavalo. • 1 hour to Cotacachi leather town • 30 - minute drive to the Equator monument or on horseback in two hours. • 30-minute drive to Cochasquí, the largest pre-Columbian archaeological site in Ecuador with 15 pyramids (covered in vegetation) and a minimum of 14 tombs in an approximately 200-acre area. Here, herds of llamas roam freely and local guides can walk you through the incredible landscape and history of this special place, where every June locals come to celebrate the Inti Raymi, a festival celebrating the passage of the sun. • 30 - minute drive to the Mojanda temperate jungle that still has some virgin forest is unique in the world and can be reached by car in • 3-10 kilometers (2-6 miles) away there are two small towns Puéllaro, with an old colonial church and a “new” church built 100 years ago, basic food and house supplies, ice cream and typical food at "Rincón Puellareño”; and Perucho with a colonial church built with wood from Mojanda and a rich collection of art works. • A short drive away is a small pyramid built by the French Geodesic Mission that measured the Equator and the roundness of the world in the 18th century. From that point you see most of what used to be my great-grandparents’ farm, which was 3.000 hectares (7.500 acres), covering a territory ranging from 1.600 meters to 2.700 meters above sea level. The history: The house and the farm have been in our familiy for five generations. Prior to that, it had belonged to a leading “criollo” (Spanish born in America) family, whose ancestor received it directly from the king of Spain when the Catholic congregation of Jesuit missionaries that owned the land were forced to abandon the Spanish empire. Until then, the land had been the property of one of Atahualpa’s (last Inca emperor) daughters ever since the Incas conquered the area after they beat the Cañaris around the year 1500. Guest access As part of your rental we offer: - One complimentary transfer from the airport* (3+ nights) * Pick up from other locations is not included. - Permanent acces to our grounds keeper for anything from a walk around the hacienda to a bonfire. - Lemons and oranges (when available) from our trees. Other things to note A bit of Spanish - or help from Google Translate - should come in handy for communicating with our groundskeeper Manuel. Goold old hand and facial gestures too. In Ecuador you may not find things you regularly use such as packaged food. If you think you will miss one of theses things I recommend you bring it along.
