Description

Peacefully yet centrally located (on Dja Dja Wurrung Country), Dutjiya Mang is the perfect rest spot for a relaxing weekend getaway or adventures exploring the Goldfields region. Inside the modest cedar wood cabin, vaulted ceilings add a sense of space to the cosy lounge and queen-sized bedroom. Step out and enjoy a barbecue on one of two decks. You will have undisturbed use of Dutjiya Mang. However, the cabin shares 1.8 acres with another house. You are welcome to explore the shared gardens. The space Dutjiya Mang means 'rest here' in Dja Dja Wurrung and was named by the Djaara Aboriginal Land Coorporation. It's the perfect name for this peaceful spot! On the site of the old Sandon Primary School and next door to a quaint, rural churchyard, Dutjiya Mang is a modest, cosy and leafy retreat. Whilst the cottage sleeps 4 (1 queen bed, 1 double sofa bed, plus cot or single floor mattress on request), it is most comfortable for 2 adults ( or 2 adults and small children), as indoor seating space is limited. We can also set up additional tents and bedding can be set up in the garden if you have a larger group. Bedroom - Queen-bed - Wool and hypoallergenic bedding and pillows, luxury cotton sheets (We believe life is too short to press and starch sheets, but you will find the comfiest, softest cotton bedding - cool or cosy depending on the season!) - Wardrobe and hanging space - Heater or fan (seasonal) - Spare blankets - Iron and ironing board - Hairdryer - Hot water bottle - Travel cot available on request Living room - Sofa/double sofa bed - Coffee table - TV, DVD player and Chromecast (to watch Netflix etc from your own device) - Selection of DVDs - Range of board games - Range of books (and a 'take one, leave one' little library on selected paperbacks (above the sofa) - Split system, heating and cooling (that heats/cools the whole cottage) - Excellent WiFi Kitchenette - Breakfast bar - Fridge - Microwave - Sink - Kettle, toaster, coffee machine - Full stock of kitchen utensils, dinnerware and glasses - Range of condiments, tea, coffee, hot chocolate - Please note, there is not full indoor cooking facilities, beyond what is listed above. But there are full supplies for cooking outdoors (see 'outdoor camp kitchen'). Outdoor 'camp' kitchen - Barbecue (gas) - Two-burner gas stove - Pots and pan - Jaffle iron Outside space - Two private, secluded balconies - Outdoor seating and shade umbrella - Chiminea fire (with additional barbecue grill) - Little herb garden - Shared garden (but with your own undisturbed use of your side) Bathroom - Shower - Toilet - Sink and vanity - Natural, packaging-free shampoo, conditioner and soap - Towels Welcome gift and supplies - Complimentary bottle of wine or non-alcoholic drinks (as you prefer) - Complimentary milk and butter (or plant-based alternatives) - A selection of herbs, spices and condiments Dutjiya Mang is secluded and private, but is situated just off the Newstead-Creswick Road for convenient access to the region. There is some traffic noise at certain times of day - but there's also lots of bird song, and at night you'll be listening out for the resident pair of Barking Owls! Please note that we have chickens and quails in an enclosed pen, who you are welcome to visit. But if you have dogs who will be very interested in the birds or capable of breaking into the pen, please keep them supervised at all times to avoid scaring or harming the birds. Bees are also kept on the property so please act accordingly when you or pets are near the hive, especially if you are at risk of anaphylaxis. There's a lot of other wildlife too, that has been seen from the property includes: - Echidna (which has been known to nest under the cottage) - Kangaroos - Wombats - Barking owls (heard frequently, seen rarely - apparently one of only 50 known breeding pairs in Victoria) - Welcome swallows - Musk lorikeets - Peaceful doves - Willy wagtails - Superb fairy wrens - Grey shrike-thrushes - White-plumed honey eaters - Bell miners - Crimson rosellas - Red-rumped parrots - Sulphur-crested cockatoos - Rainbow lorikeets - Kookaburras - Magpies - Galahs - Long-billed corellas - Brown thornbills -Silvereyes - And many more we don't yet know the name of... We'd love to hear what you spot too! Guest access You will have exclusive, undisturbed access to the cottage and the surrounding gardens. The 1.8 acre grounds are shared with another house which is approximately 50 metres away and separated by tall eucalypts, that add to the sense of seclusion. Feel free to explore the whole property though!
